You are probably asking if it is disturbing to another person, but the answer is that it is probably disturbing the snorer’s own sleep. Snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea and testing is recommended to confirm/disprove this. The problem is usually treated with a CPAP machine. This is helpful for the snorer because the interruptions in their sleep usually mean that they do not feel rested even after a full night’s sleep.

BTW, it wont’ hurt their sholom bayis either if it is treated since it does often disturb their spouse.

Good ear plugs generally solve the problem. Plus, it provides abundant opportunity for cheppering… >D

OP- start simple by purchasing a Neti Pot at the local health Food Store. A Neti Pot is a Ceramic or hard Plastic Vessel that you fill with Salt Water, and use to Irrigate the Nostrils as well as the Sinus Cavity. There could be something simple like Mucus Obstructing the Nasal Passage way in both Nostrils the Neti Pot can flush the excess Mucus from the Nostrils. If the Neti Pot does not work, then go to the Pharmacy and purchase either good sound proof ear plugs or a device the person could use to help lessen the Snore. Lastly if all these methods fail then make an appointment with an Ear/Nose/Throat Specialist to help determine the cause of the Snoring. Good luck!

Most of the times snoring is because of weight gain!

Shed some pounds, start a daily workout, if the snoring continues, contact a pulmonary doctor. CPAP or surgery might be necessary so that you get adequate oxygen at night.

That’s a last resort for sleep apnea. For snoring they have a spray that immobilizes the area and they also have simple devices that might work. If there is a possibility of sleep apnea, the person should always go for a sleep study.

When one spouse snores they steal the other parnter’s sleep. If this happens on a occasion one can deal with it. If this happens often it is a serious issue and takes a big bite into one’s shalom bayis. It is a very serious issue, it is not a joke and it is not funny at all. Imagine not being able to sleep night after night. If earplugs work for you, you are lucky. They can be very irritating and in many cases it does not drown out all the sound. You can try a sound machine to help drown out the noise if it is not too loud.

Try whatever you can until you find a solution that works as a couple because sleep is very important, even if the one who snores has to sleep in another room.

Is a snorer who shares a room with a non-snorer guilty of gezel sheina?*

    The Wolf

    * Of course, that’s assuming the snorer keeps the non-snorer awake.

No, since the non-snorer could sleep elsewhere and yet chooses to sleep with the snorer.

No, since the non-snorer could sleep elsewhere and yet chooses to sleep with the snorer.

And what if there is no place else for the non-snorer to sleep?

    There is always someplace else.

Also, if you sleep in the train station, is the train conductor guilty of gezel sheina every time he rides through the station?

Since this isn’t a Halacha forum anyone can state their

opinion(s), but you two happen to be wrong.

    While it is true that we hold ??? ???? ????? ??? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ???, there is a difference between a regular ???? and an ???? ????. As Tosafos in Bava Kamma 27b points out:

    ???”? ????? (?? ??:) ?????? ???? ????? ???? ????? ???? ??? ??? ???? ???? ?? ??? ????? ??? ???????? ???? ???? ???? ????? ?? ???? ???? ??? ???? ???? ??? ?????? ???? (???? ?? ???.) ??? ???? ??? ????? ??? ????? ??????? ?? ????? ??? ?????? ?????? ?????? ??? ??? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ?????? ?? ??????? ?? ????????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???? ????? ???? ???? ????? ??? ??? ??? ???? ?????? ???? ????? ???? ????? ????? ???? ????? ????? ????? (????) ???? ???? ????? ?????? ????? ??????? (?”? ?? ??: ??? ?”? ????) ?????? ???? ????? ????? ????? ??? ????? ???? ???? ??? ???? ???? ??? ???? ????? ??????? ???? ??? ????? ???? ??? ??? ????? ???? ??? ????? ?”? ?????? ????? ????? ??? ????? ???? ????? ?’ ????? ???? ?????? ??? ????? ???? ???? ????? ???? ????? ?????? ???? ???????? ?????? (?”? ?? ??:) ?????? ????? ????? ?????? ????? ?????? ???? ???? ????? ???? ??”? ???? ??? ?????? ??? ??????

Tosafos goes on, but I quoted the main point.

See also the Beit Yosef in Choshen Mishpat siman 421:

    ????? ??????? ???? ?”? ??? ?’ ???? ???? ?? ????? ???? ???? ????? ???? ??? ???? ???? ???? ????? ???? ??? ???? ???? ????? ???? ???? ???? ?????? ??? ???? ??????? ??”?

And the Rema in Choshen Mishpat 378:1:

    ?????? ????? ???? ???? ??? ??????

I’m not saying it is, but it is possible that snoring would be an ???? ????.

I have an extremely dislike people who snore. Every time I hear someone snore I can’t help but think of how selfish those people are. It sounds a lot like a bag of pork rinds under someone’s covers.
