Games are a total waste of time, IMHO.

I may spend hours every day in front of a computer, but I do not spend a single second on things that I consider to be a waste of time. I read the news, weather, study scientific subjects, learn Torah as well, read my mail and stay in touch with friends.

    Games are addictive.

I would never touch the game in a million years. If I even dare try it, I am sure I would be 100% addicted. Same goes for Minecraft.

We played WoW for a while! So funny to see someone else who’s into it here.

I am a gamer, but never dipped into wow. Maybe will try one of the free-to-plays one of these days…

I used to play MMORPG’s a lot, but they all just seemed to get repetitive. Although there are a few that really stand out. I now prefer simple FPS, racing, and some RPG’s.

WOW = World of Warcraft? Is it a computer game or a board/card game?

That is the first result from Google.

I wish I could find a girl who is a casual video gamer. I’m sure shadchannim probably don’t get that sort of information bc most frum girls probably keep it a secret. I would love to splitscreen through Halo 4 with my future wife… *sigh*

WIY: lol, yes there are. We even have console wars together (I like Playstation and my friend likes Nintendo). ^_^

gavra: It’s a computer game. It’s a MMORPG, which means you play it online with real people.

I wouldn’t say I’m a casual gamer girl, I’d say I’m a HARD CORE gamer girl =). And I dont get why any girl would want to keep that a secret. I’ve played games all my life, and I hope to continue playing after I’m married. My guy better be a gamer too =). Isn’t it a dream for a guy to want a girl who plays games? Oh, and I’ve definitely played Wow, warcraft 3 wc2. I love the night elves. But nothing beats Oblivion!

I once attempted to pretend I was a wow enthusiast, but people did not take me seriously. Someone even said a joke in my face, it was about a workoholic who had found a good excuse for his evenings and nights in the office 😛

lol @ Queen Bee… I used to be hard core, but then I graduated high school…. Don’t get me wrong, I can still pwn almost any deathmatch, but I just don’t get as much play time as I used to when I had very few responsibilities. I now play casually, so I dub myself a casual gamer. I’m looking for a girl who can play hardcore, but is responsible enough to know how much time should be set aside for playing, and when to turn off the game. It’s addictive so…

You just touched on a major flaw in the Shidduchim process. The fact that there are many things that people are into and would find desirable in a spouse but they cant tell the Shadchan about it.

Curiosity, yeah, I love playing so much, but I don’t have so much time. I usually squeeze em in at night, at say, *cough* past midnight lol. But ohhh so worth it! And I get weird obsessions, like right now I’m playing a strategy game I haven’t played since I was 10-13. It’s just so awesome. Wish I can play every single game out there, though impossible (I still have 12+ lined up). Right now I am focusing most of my time on my writing, so that might explain why I’m up past midnight playing a game when I should be in bed…

One of Many, hi! Thanks for thinking about me. I saw this thread and I just had to post lol. I might be back, since I have some more free time than before. Although there are a few times here and there where I wanna slap people…we’ll see. But thanks so much! I did miss you! And I didn’t know you played games. What are your favorites?

I spend almost all my gaming time playing KH. Sometimes I will play a little old-school FF (yay for PSPs!), but not really. I tend to get sucked into these things, so I restrict gaming time to commuting and an hour before bed (like right now :D), and I force myself run around yelling LALALAICANTHEARYOU whenever my little brother tries to get me to play anything else (“You would LOVE this – it’s just like KH!” – so tempting… D:)

And yes, you were definitely missed. The coffee room is losing all its pleasant people. 🙁

Queen Bee.. just to throw out a guess.. Command & Conquer Red Alert? If not… Maybe Starcraft? I was personally an Age of Empires junky as a kid.. I sometimes still fantasize about Ensemble Studios reuniting to remake the first AoE. I learned so much history from that game!

Sam2 – Thanks, I wish I had a contact there. I’ll ask around, but I live way Oot so I don’t expect to meet much success in finding a reference person here.

Soo.. is anyone here old enough to have had an N64 as a kid? (Best system EVER) That thing had some of the best games of all time! The original Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Jet Force Gemini, Super Mario 64, Starfox 64!!! Ahhhh!!! death by nostalgia…

Nah I never liked command and conquer. The game I was talking about is Caesar 3. Do you know how much I learned from that game? And I loved age of empires! I think Aoe2 is the best though, such awesome music! And I played starcraft as a teen, but they kept calling me “son” and I was like, I’m not a dude! So I quit that one. As for the 12 games I still need to play, let’s see if I can remember…(I have a list somewhere on my computer): mass effect, fallout, oblivion, blur, some Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Some strategy games similar to Aoe, guild wars, Aoeo, grand ages Rome which is like Caesar 3. Call of duty, league of legends, trine and trine 2 and I know theres more but I can’t remember. I mostly play pc games though I’m dying for an Xbox. I do play some Wii. Don’t know if you remember DOS games but they ruled! Oh and I love Mario games.

One of many, thanks! I dont know any of those games. That’s cute about your brother, I did the same thing to mine until I started to play.

Curiosity: I never had any games as a kid, but I used to go to friends’ houses a lot. Super Mario 64 was a favorite. I was the first to beat the penguin race. I accidentally fell off the beginning of the slide but managed to land on it right at the very bottom. It was great. And I still have been known to play Smash Bros as a way to recharge when I can’t learn anymore from time to time.

QB: Was never really into KH, FF, or even any of the Zelda games. I just didn’t enjoy them. ChronoTrigger is still my all-time favorite game though (of course, I haven’t played any game other than the recreational multi-player Halo, WiiSports, or Smash Bros in close to a decade now).

Queen Bee, that’s too funny that they kept thinking u were a guy. Fallout, Mass Effect, CoD and Oblivion are all amazing in their own right! Haven’t played the rest of your list though. Aoe 2 was also a favorite, but I liked the AoE Rise of Rome expansion set the best. The only Dos game I remember playing was DOOM. There were a few others, but I don’t recall their names.

Sam2 I would have never guessed you played any video games, but that’s awesome that u can relate! I love Smash Bros! I would Falcon Kick many a Pikachu back in the day. Lol

Mod 42- you stir up some ancient memories of mine.. as a little boy growing up in Israel I believe I had an NES with duck hunt, tetris, ice climber, and some tank game where u had to defend your base against waves of AI tanks. Good times!

One of Many, yeah, of course I heard of them. Sorry, I meant I never played them. I did want to get into FF, but there are soo many games I want to try, so I guess I never got around to it. My platform is PC, so I don’t really play a lot of non-PC games.

Curiosity, dude, DOOM is awesome! One of my favorites. Others are: One Must Fall, Raptor Call of the Shadows, Skyroads, Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen, Life and Death 2: the Brain. That’s a brain surgery game which was just sooo fun! And a lot of others, too. I still play a lot of them, since I have a program that lets me play DOS games on my computer.

Sam2, no, it’s probably the LOL you think. I don’t think such small crowd plays. Don’t know why others do, but I was looking for a free multiplayer game I could play with my sis, and I found LOL. Fell in love with it the minute I saw one of the characters. I don’t play competitively, though, just against Bots. I don’t like playing with or against a bunch of jerks lol

Hey QB -). Isn’t LA Noire also on your list, or did you finish it?

Anyone play Quake growing up? That was my favorite. And what are all your favorite racing games? I like NFS Hot Pursuit, Underground, Blur, and GTR.

Hiya MP! -). Oh yeah…I don’t recommend playing that one. While it is cool, there does show some er…stuff that I don’t think people would wanna see lol. I didn’t finish it yet, but I hope to one day. Oh, you might like this: a part of the game is having to drive from location to location in LA, and I always speed and knock into things and cost the city of LA thousands of dollars lol. Sometimes I feel like I’m playing Blur lol! And I steal civilians’ cars all the time -). It’s fun! And I don’t think I ever played Quake. The cover looks a little bit like Oblivy!

Hey QB, if you like strategy games u should check out Black & White 2. It’s sort of an RTS, mixed partially with an RPG. It’s also very unique in many ways. I really liked it, even though its a bit old now. Also, I agree with u abt LA Noire… Other than the graphic nature of some of the scenes, it’s really an amazing game!

Was anyone here a Counter Strike fan growing up? When I was in high school I built a multiplayer map that was a 1-to-1 replica of our Yeshiva building, with added secret tunnels and other cool things. It was on the CS 1.6 build, but it was still fun as anything fragging terrorists in the Beis Medrash. Lol!

How about board games. Those can be played on Shabbos and by the technologically challenged. I used to play a lot of Risk, Stratego, and Monopoly. It’s been a few years…

42: Monopoly? That’s a whole Sugya. I used to play a lot of Risk and never lost a game of Stratego in my life. I finally met my match and we played five straight games to a draw. As far as I know, neither of us have ever played since (I certainly haven’t).

@GamZuLTovah We play on the skullcrusher server.

Feel free to join us 🙂 If you’re interested (or anyone) you can real id us ([email protected]).

@frummy in the tummy – Yes but she’s 2yrs old she’s got a long time before she dates 😀

I feel like I opened up an interesting thread. Never knew so many gamer jews were out there like us!

@The Chassidishe Gatesheader – Funny how you critique gamers as addicts or games as a waste of time. But the reality is that my wife and I spend time playing some games together instead of going to the movies, out to eat, watch tv, or other time wasters. But the funniest part is that you think reading mail, the weather, hanging out with friends, and all that is not a waste of time? Sorry to break your bubble but the only thing you can do that isn’t a waste of time from your entire list is learning torah. Yes that’s the one thing that isn’t a waste of time. But you know what, we’re not on such a high level that we can work a 10 hour shift, come home and then learn for 5 hours. I need to relax my head and gaming with my wife accomplishes that (along with having fun with each other).

Games are ok as long as its taken in moderation, just like monopoly, and card games, etc.

@Queen Bee – Have you tried skyrim? I bought the game and was playing it for a bit. I was having a blast and told my wife she should try it. At first she refused and I kinda pushed her to give it a shot for 5 minutes. Once she did try it, I regretted pushing her to try it – she was like…totally addicted to it till I pried her away from it lol.

    #932388

LOL, I can’t believe this thread. And here I thought I was the only frum gamer on the planet!

Games can be helpful and a force for good. Search for “jane mcgonigal” and “steven johnson”.

Repharim- I’ve been an elder scrolls fan since Oblivion. Played that a lot, on Skyrim now. I try not to sink too much time into it but boy, that game is incredible.

Repharim’s wife here. I had to sign up for this forum when he showed me this thread he started, lol. It’s really great seeing so many of us willing to admit that we play computer games.

@Queen Bee I thought I was a hard-core gamer, until I saw that you’ve effectively played about double or maybe triple the amount of games I’ve played in my life, lol. You should TOTALLY play Skyrim, it’s awesome! If you ever think of coming back to WoW, let me know and I’ll send you a rez! I saw my husband’s idea, and you know, if we can get enough of us Jewish gamers to transfer over to our server, I really think we would make a guild like that.

The real ID email my husband gave out is my email (yes, I approved of it, lol), so feel free to real ID me (and by extension, my husband), I certainly won’t mind having some Jewish friends on WoW! 🙂

You should really consider deleting the actual email from this thread now that whoever needs it here, has it. Unfortunately, its a public thread which means anybody (or any Malware program) googling the words “@yahoo.com” can find it and send you spam/viruses or attempt to hijack ur account. Just be careful…

Thanks Curiosity for the warning/word of caution. One of the main reasons why I approved my husband giving it out here (other than the fact that this is a jewish forum), is because I have several email accounts, and my Yahoo account is considered my “trash”/spam account, lol. It used to be my personal email, but then I realized that “naturelover613” didn’t sound very professional on resumes.

It also happens to be the one I use for WoW, hence the real ID thing. You might have wondered why my husband didn’t put his email up for real ID- the reason: his WoW email is his personal one (and not his “trash”/spam email). I think the idea was that, if frum people would real ID me, he can add them as well, in-game.

I get plenty of spam (and probably virus emails) on my yahoo, simply because anything I sign up for on the interwebz, I use my yahoo email. Thankfully, yahoo’s spam filter is pretty amazing, and if something does manage to get through it into my inbox (which is very, VERY rare), I know what to look for in the subject line, and add it to my spam filter (I rarely open my spam, unless it’s one of those “my rich husband passed away and wants to give you $10 million” emails, and just for the laughs, and I absolutely will NEVER click on links in my spam emails). So far, B”H, I haven’t had that email address hijacked- and the only sane way someone would be able to hijack and figure out my password, would be to get a keylogger on my computer-probably by me clicking on the links in my spam emails (which I never do, cuz I’m s-m-r-t). Not to mention, I’m very proud of my complicated passwords, lol. 😀
