Does a well done steak have a higher spiritual level than a rare steak?

You know how Torah teaches that bread is spiritually higher than its ingredients because of the transformation from wheat (and other ingredients) into lechem during baking?

Wondering if meat goes through a spiritual transformation through the cooking process too. If so, then wouldn’t a steak that’s more cooked have an intrinsically higher spiritual position than a rarer cooked steak.

**Only serious replies please – Thank you in advance.**

Just for the sake of playing along with OP, I can think of a reason that any elevation that bread may have over it’s ingredients would not apply to steak or anything similar. in the case of bread, a mixture of simple ingredients, is transformed into a new, vital entity. a teak remains a steak whether it’s rare or well done. No transformation occurs.

If eaten for the high spiritual reason just to have strength to serve Hashem, then it is higher spiritually and more cooked ready to be eaten. Versus if eaten physically for pleasure and enjoyment dinner then no.

laskern: it says כי אם צלי אש, but not to what level. it just cant be raw. rare or medium through roasting takes it out of the raw stage.

Well we say מאכל בן דרוסאי isn’t good (a בן סורר ומורה eats it) so it must be better spiritually the more it’s cooked

iacismma, not that simple. The Minchas Chinuch 7, questions what נא means whether מאכל בן דרוסאי is included.

I don’t agree. A fine piece of beef steak that is allowed to be cooked until well done has become a piece of shoe leather, and just as tough, A transformation some edible deliciousness to something not fit for a dog has occurred.

No, I don’t. Maybe you mean that It serves its function better, and anything which physical which can help one serve Hashem has ruchniyus value, but I don’t see how that applies to how one prefers their steak.

Please dont take this personally, yet there are many very refined people whom enjoy their steak well done. Equating them to beneath dogs is an affront to many people who are not such mayvinim of the finer culinary Taivos of the Material world. Al Ta’am VaRayach….
I can’t understand why you impose your opinion in a way that denegrates regular people.

the gemara refers to roasting as tikun, and maachel bar drusai as food eaten by thieves who didn’t have time to prepare their food. That said ,we do find the idea of “oomtza”, raw meat chewed on by people. And there is a concept call mitztameik vera lo, that food is overcooked.

CT, I agree that well-done is not a good thing to do to a steak in the Olam haGashmi. In fact, most restaurant kitchens use the ends and poorer cuts for “save for well-done”, I.E. for when a customer orders well-done.
The OP, however, is speaking of the spiritual quality of foods in which case I maintain that no spritiual aliya accrues to to meat according to it’s well-doneness.

The word is denIgrate, not denegrate.

My post was tongue in cheek, which is all you will have left after loosing your teeth trying to chew overcooked well done steak.
If you want well done beef, make pot roast, or brisket or cholent or beef stew or other gedemte fleisch, not a good steak,

The Mitzvah on shabbos is to enjoy yourself you can’t do that with a burnt steak
