How do you do it and then fall asleep when you get home, it’s either I’m sleeping through leining or I can’t sleep when I get home and I’m overtired during the meal with headaches

    Help!!!

The wonderful minhag of learning all night Shavuos does not diminish the obligation to daven Shacharis. And davening without being able to concentrate and be emotionally involved is close to useless. Tefila has an inherent challenge built into it. It must be done with complete involvement, yet it is done routinely, and routine tends to render the actions more mechanical than emotional. That exists every day. But when we take the beautiful tefilos of Yom Tov and try to do them while sleep deprived, with our heads bobbing up and down, dozing on and off, and unable to concentrate, we have a serious problem. It may well be better to sleep first, and daven later (with fulfilling requirements about zman krias shema and tefiloh. I have heard of those who go to mikva before shacharis, and are thrilled to find a mikva that is cold. That should wake you up enough to get through Mussaf without dozing.

Be the Bal Koreh. You are forced to stay awake.

The way to do it is to go to sleep for 4 hours after alois and daven shachris at the proper time, take your children to shul so they can also hear the eseres hadebrois.
My shul did that this year and everyone davened properly with no complaints.

    iacisrmma,

Thanks but I’m not a good leiner, in years past I used to do hagbah/pesicha

This year I was outbid ☹️

But don’t worry I didn’t fall asleep this year and I didn’t have a major headache either! (I bought a 5 hour energy but lost it so I subsided on 1 cup of hot coffee and 2 cups of iced coffee and I was fine BH

It’s an amazing spiritual experience. To go to shul and learn by yourself, or with a chavrusa, or listen to a shiur, and then daven vasikin to me felt mamesh like Yom Kippur. Ok It’s not always easy, but I felt it paid off.
