Why is it that many people rather support people they dont know by giving money to kollelim in israel rather then supporting their own relatives?

You’re relatives don’t honor you at dinners, or give you plaques.

according to the rambam, it’s better to support poor people in Eretz HaKodesh than in golus. Their Torah learning (in E”Y) is more holy and precious to Hashem.

Move to Israel and have the best of both worlds.

Chofetz Chaim wrote in Ahavas Chesed, that Torah study support comes before tzeddaka (of a non urgent nature)

kvodhatorah -I heard from a Shiur (taped) by Rabbi Krohn that it’s a Chiyuv to support your family/relatives before Yeshivos because of Oomebesorcah Lo Tisalem!

“hockaroundtheclock -You’re relatives don’t honor you at dinners, or give you plaques.”

He actually mentioned this in the Shiur.
