    If you were given the opportunity to know one detail from the future, what would you choose to know? Keep in mind, that knowing that detail may actually change whether that detail is correct… for example, knowing your day of death might change the way you live your life and might change your day of death. This detail that you are finding out is assuming your life goes on without knowing that detail.

    I would want to know if I will have access to a time machine in the future.

    While there are lots of things I would like to know for curiosity’s sake, I think the one future detail that would probably have the most practical impact on my life would be knowing the lottery numbers.

    I dont know… that is a really great question, though.

    There is so much i would want to know, like do i end up sane? Do i ever figure out where to get social skills? do i ever end up putting out an album of my songs? do i have a relationship with a mentor? do i get married? do i ever answer those creepy questions that keep me up at night?

    I think the best detail one could know is one that would save one from wasting one’s time. For example: Will I ever get married, will save me a lot of time if I’m dating.

    Another: What’s the best job I will ever have, will allow me to focus on doing the best at my career and not worry so much about getting that next promotion. How many kids will I have … etc. etc.

    Lotto winning numbers for a major lottery, works for me. This way I could plan all my tzedaka donations in advance.

    On a serious note – knowing when Moshiach is coming, so I could truly be prepared, and not just “think” I am ready.

    You know, the future may be as immutable as the past. Suppose you found out that you would die (C”S) on April 5, 2023 of heart disease. Okay, so you lose weight, stop smoking, eat right and exercise. you maintain yourself in superb health. On April 5, 2023 you are crossing the street and get hit by a car whose driver had a heart attack behind the wheel.

    As much as I would want to know when Mashiach is coming, I dont think it would, or it should, affect my life. My avodas Hashem is not dependent on when Mashiach will come, and it might depress me if it’s not for a while.

    I would politely decline as I don’t see any point of knowing the inevitable before it happens. And I like surprises.

    street- I basically agree with you. I just don’t care to be surprised by random lottery numbers. That’s something I’d like to know in advance.

    @simcha613:

    Keep in mind, that knowing that detail may actually change whether that detail is correct…

    Hmmmmmmm…..

    And I won’t start ranting about how my name is always misspelled, miscomprehended and totally mistaken…

    No. If there will be a time machine in the future, the people of the future have contacted present and past persons and we would know.
