So I hereby invite all the frei’a apikorsim, especially those who have fallen into either Zionism or Hassidism, to come to me for Shabbos. We’ll drink hot tea, sing zemiros, and I’ll try to knock some straight hashkofos into your krumma heads.

    To reserve, call 732-TEA-SING.

I go thru my own Shabbos project every week, 1st having to project my untimely early departure from work, and then having to prepare food upfront, and then after Shabbos having to tidy up from Shabbos.

Even at busy junctures in time, as this past month with a Chag each Monday, my own Shabbos project doesn’t take a break.

Not even for the busiest of all days:- i.e. Erev Pesach [2021, 2025].

I rarely post my comments but i feel here i have to.

I am repulsed by what i read as making fun of the intention of The Shabbos Project. If you aren’t interested in having those who are less fortunate than you or less frum than you at your table, than by all means live in your own world. Don’t invite anyone.

There are many that don’t need a “Shabbos Project” to be inspired to invite strangers into their house for a shabbos meal and perhaps build a relationship that will plant seeds that will last several lifetimes.

The idea to promote kiruv worldwide is admirable. It gives many people the chance to get involved in something that, IMHO will hasten the coming of Moshiach. If you not interested stay out of the way of those that are.

Want to know how many are going to become frum as a result of this program; who would not otherwise become frum? Not a one.

We celebrate our differences through acknowledging them and inviting a whole spicy salad of different types of people. And we also sometimes sing about our favorite beverages.

I saw what happend last year

And frankly after speaking to people last year, if they want to be more successful they need to persue this a different way. You are not going to be very successful you cant expect people to keep shabbos at first, you need to give them a taste and see how it goes and if they dont like it, accept that as an answer and move and and if they are interested give them more , but not too much at once

I hadn’t opened this thread because I assumed it was an actual

discussion of the Shabbos Project. How wrong I was… at first.

What exactly was your intention, DaasYochid?

(By the way, the hashtag is actually #keepingittogether – not “us”)

I pariticipated last year and I had my guest bail on me last year and it seems it happend to alot of people as well and even many who attended the first meal left at some point during shabbos and by Havdalah there were very few guests left.

And even getting guests was hard as many people did not want to give up an entire saturday and sleep over someones house (not commonly done in the general world)

Personally, I think it’s a beautiful idea bringing Jews together to celebrate Shabbos. They probably won’t become observant right away. But the point is to give them a spark to light the flame. Yes one day is not enough. People need continuous support like partners in Torah.

In a time like this, we need both the power of unity and Shabbos to bring blessing and Geula

Funny thing is , I think in one of the videos someone actually suggested just that to serve someone Gefilte Fish and they will be inspired.

If you dont like a particular food, serving it to them is not a positive experience.

If you are going to invite someone, Make sure you make them foods that they like, not foods you like or you think will inspire them

Most wont become frum from this….correct. However, one guest i had last year still come 75% of shabbossim to my home. And for the few hours she is there she is eating Kosher and NOT being a chillul Shabbos.

All we can do is plant seeds….

I said and I repeat, There was more enthusiam last year and this year is likely to be a dud and last year turned out to be a dud because of the way it was run and If I was in charge Id make changes to perhaps get better response, however my ideas would not get much traction because people are not willing to think outside of the box and admit that maybe a partial shabbos to start is better than full shabbos (at least the first time).

Invite people for one meal and one service (Friday night would probably work better) and see how it goes. Alot of people are not willing to give up a saturday for Shabbos

We all realise that if 1 single person was inspired and eventually became frum (even if the shabbos just started the process, and he was mekarev 50 years later), the entire concept is worth it.

Sometimes that “feel good” matziv just sets the tone.

So yes. There is probably absolutely noone lined up after havdalah to meet the rabbi, but in a couple (maybe even 10, 20, or even 30) years. You never know

They might refer to gefilte fish as “albino meatloaf”.
