To add insult to injury, an MTA employee behind me did not get one. I wonder why?!

It is really getting out of hand.

Oh, come on! This is not unfair, unjust, or unfortunate. When you park illegally, you deserve a ticket. Double-parking especially bothers me – do you have no concern for the person (or people) that you’re blocking in? Just because “everyone else” does it doesn’t mean it’s right! This is not out of hand at all – everyone should get a ticket. Don’t even bother trying to fight it, because you’re wrong!

I heard that they are looking to rename Boro Park, Double Park.

    Reb Head,

I’m very sorry to hear about the summons. It would be a shame to have to pay so much money that could otherwise be used for better purposes.

I suggest that you look the summons over very carefully noting even the slightest mistake, but regardless of the accuracy you should try to dispute the summons. The Department of Finance may offer to remove one third of the fine if you plead guilty.

Please have a look at the “Alternate Side Parking Rules Suspension Calendar” http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/downloads/pdf/asp2008.pdf and note that “Double parking of passenger vehicles is illegal at all times,

including street cleaning days, regardless of location, purpose

    or duration”.

    Good Luck!

In Brooklyn, double parking may not be common during alternate side, but in Manhattan it is a necessity! Not enough parking spaces exist even with 2 sides of the street. Everyone knows that if you will need your car during alternate side make sure it is not on the “right” side of the street or it will be blocked in. It’s just a reality.

For the most part, cops don’t ticket people even though it is not legal. But I can remember when there was a job action and they just went up and down ticketing everyone. You can’t fight the ticket (unless it is defective) but hopefully 99% of the time you won’t get one.

Well, I’m not a Manhattanite anymore, but that’s all I’ll admit to. Notice my absence from the “Lounge” thread.

i have been following research on the higgs boson since i read a book called “the G-d particle” by leon lederman

if you misspoke by stating that scientists are trying to replicate the big bang, dont start belittling me. if you dont want to be corrected when you make a mistake, just say so, i wont bother.

That’s it!! I always *knew* the scientific explanation behind parking tickets was the Higgs-Boson particle!

I dont get NY…. Where pray tell do they expect ppl to put their cars during alternate parking??? There are not physically enough places to park then!!!! It urks me to no end! I really doesnt make sense. If you take away the spaces during that time you need to provide a place to relocate to!

“Double parking,” is just a “nice” sounding way to say, that you are parking illegally, in the middle of the street. By all means, do it, but don’t be surprised if and when you get a ticket.

Yoshi… where am I supposed to put my car when in a 5 block radius there is no “legal” spot for those hours????? It makes no sense!

The city needs the revenue. So they make laws that are literally impossible to follow.

shkoyach! Alternate side parking means double park on the other side!

walk? It can’t hurt to leave a little earlier in the morning, and get some fresh air and exercise.

Hakol Biyday shamayim. It was decreed that you would have to lose this amount of money. Better this way, than at the doctors office.

In many other cities they also have alternate side parking and for some reason they do not seem to have any issue with following the rules… They walk or leave a little earlier…. at least you dont have permit parking! That means you have to pay for the privelege to park outside your home… without one of those little stickers, your car gets a ticket!

    Walk??

And where do the unlucky half park their cars with half the parking spots made illegal?

The cars need to be parked somewhere when you are walking…

Nuuu…sounds like a business opportunity for a developer. Anyone want to open a parking garage in BP? Looks like you can charge upwards of $50/hr while alternate side is in effect. Is cheaper than the ticket.

    Anyone?

A ticket in NYC for alternate side is either $35 or 45 (I forget.)

Joseph. Lets work with $35. So, $15/hr is a competitive rate. Especially if you pay off the right people in parking enforcement division and incent them to give tickets 🙂

    (That was a joke)

Shkoyach mentioned that there are no legal parking spaces within a 5 block radius.

So, Joseph, I think what yoshi meant is to park 6+ blocks away and then walk the rest of the way.
