Is he pro-life and pro-(traditional) marriage?

Those are my prerequisites to consider a candidate.

Are so your only prerequisites? What about pro-Israel, pro-economy, pro-school choice and all that?

Other positions count too. But without a candidate being on the right side of those two, there is nothing else to consider.

Then i guess you do not agree with Mitch Daniels, another possible Republican candidate. He says that in times like this when our economy is so bad, we have to put aside social issues for now and get ahead on one thing- fixing the economy. Social issues are nothing but a distraction at this point. While i am sure many republicans do not agree with him, he definitely has a point. Our debt is so high, it threatens the economic future of this country. While social issues are definitely important; in a crisis you have to do one thing- deal with the crisis. That should be the most important thing right now.

That is good for him actually. Its part of his appeal as an Indian American.

Absolutely. Moral and social issues are by far a priority. If someone supports the murder of babies or supports abomination, I don’t care if he has the best tax and economic policies of anyone. He is out.

Tim Pawlenty was the Governor of Minnesota (where I am from) and had the honor of meeting him a few times. As far I know, he is pro-life and pro-Israel. The marriage thing, when he was governor he, wasn’t a huge debate in the house yet. If he sticks to the same beliefs that he had when he was governor of MN, he has my vote.

it is nice that someone actually knows something about him. It seems like no one really has much of an opinion on him- whether good or bad. Does anyone else know anything about him?

Hitler yemach shmo was anti-abortion and anti-gay. I presume some of the commenters here would have supported him. After all, his last opponents were socialists!

Tim Pawlenty is conservative. He has said that there is no liberty greater than the right to life and he has always been pro-life. He believes that same-gender marriage should be banned with a constitutional amendment. He is a staunch advocate of border control. He has also said in the past that if he ran for president, repealing Obamacare would be on his agenda.

I think that of the Republican field that has announced their candidacy for 2012, Pawlenty is the best candidate. The knock on Pawlenty has been that he is brutally boring and probably would not generate much enthusiasm, however, I think he would represent himself much better on a Republican ticket than some of the other potential Republican candidates.

With that said, in the absence of some dramatic event and in light of how discombobulated the 2012 Republican field has looked, Obama will be reelected and one can only imagine his stance on Israel once he is a lame-duck.

No idea about anti-abortion but I am pretty sure gays were persecuted and murdered in Nazi Germany.

pac-man, you bring a proof from Nazi propaganda? It is a fact that every single Social Democrat in the Reichstag voted against giving Hitler yemach shmo dictatorial powers in 1933, and every single member of every other party voted the wrong way. Most of the deputies who voted with the losing side spent the next 12 years in prison or in hiding, if they survived at all. With rare exceptions such as Konrad Adenauer, mayor of Cologne, a member of the (Catholic) Center Party who openly opposed the Nazis and for his trouble was arrested multiple times by the Nazis and spent much of the next 12 years in hiding, the non-socialist parties went along with the Nazis.

cucumber, Hitler yemach shmo was not opposed to all abortions: He forbade Aryan Germans from having abortion but made it easily available to non-Germans, in particular, Jews, before he decided to eliminate born-Jews as well.

No less a figure than Himmler yemach shmo was founded a “Reich Central Office for Combating Abortion and Homosexuality”. Tens of thousands of suspected homosexuals were imprisoned, many in the same camps that our people were sent to.

Pawlently is a wicked man and I suppose he wants to run for his own credit. I would not vote for him in any case but that said, I would not vote for Romney either.

Basket of Radishes: Why do you assert that “Pawlenty is a wicked man”? Can you give some support to that statement for those of us who know very little about him? Also, are any of the other potential nominees less wicked than he? Thank you.
