How can you determine a kosher toothpaste? I know glycerin is one of the main issues but that can also be made from plants. Is it enough to reach out to a company and trust what they say? If they specifically answer that there are no animal byproducts in their toothpaste, mouthwash, whitestrips then is that ok to use? Is there anything else to watch out for other than glycerin?

First check the Halal site, if it’s Halal or Haram.
Check with the company if it’s “vegan”.
Ask the company, who is their kosher certifier?

Halal or Haram means it is ok by kosher standards?
Companies might be vegan in terms of no animal derivatives but can’t claim or be listed as vegan if they test it on animals so they cannot tell you that they are vegan if that’s the case. I’m obviously asking about companies without kosher certification because if they had a hechsher there wouldn’t be an issue. Companies such as Crest, Colgate, aquafresh, etc.
I wrote to crest and they said they have no animal byproducts and the glycerin comes from plants or other sources. Is that enough?

I like the peppermint flavor. My 2 year old is obsessed with the bubblegum. Eww.

You can search the websites of kashrus agencies or contact them. I believe the mainstream brands are all kosher. Colgate is kosher l’pesach. Of course, do your research and don’t go by the CR.
