    Hello coffee room members,

I’ve been offered a summer internship in Durham, North Carolina, and I would like to know if there is a Torah community located anywhere nearby. I’ve found some info online about a Chabad center nearby, but I honestly don’t think it would cut it for me. I’m looking for somewhere where I can find *shtark* Torah learning at nights (something along the lines of a 2 hour seder of Gemara be’Iyun with a chavrusa), and I haven’t been able to find any yeshiva or shul with such a program nearby.

My learning is something that is very important to me, to the point where I would not even consider taking this opportunity unless I can guarantee that I will be able to continue with my learning on an appropriate level and with the same seriousness and fervor (so Skyping with my current chavrusa is not really something we’re willing to do for an entire summer, even though we’re both techies 🙂 ). But so far, I simply haven’t been able to find any such accommodations. Can anybody give me any useful information they might have, or point me in the right direction?

    Thank you all very much.

There is nothing of any substance anywhere near there. The closest places to Durham that offer anything close to what you are looking for are in Richmond, Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina (Charlotte Torah Center).

In short, you most likely shouldn’t take the internship in Durham.

Maybe contact the chabad and ask them. You may even find a local shaliach who would be thrilled to have someone serious to learn with at nights. And you can be mechazek him in his efforts!
