I understand there is a difference for sefardim. For ashkenazim and sefardim: for those old ovens with pilot lights, do you leave a small flame on the stovetop oven over yuntif or do you turn it on from scratch (i.e. from the pilot light).

Everyone agrees you can’t turn on a pilot light. I thought everyone agreed that if said pilot light was lit that you can use it. I’m not sure what the issue is here.

what about on the stove. perhaps there is a flicker that causes a spark. I am curious if other people turn the stove top on even if there is no visible flame.

Strictly speaking, pilot lights on old stoves were always on.Because they were deemed wasteful, they haven’t been made for a long time
