    I hate to be picky, but Google Docs can be replaced by Office. The extra monay is worth it to avoid the Nichshal.

    Hereorthere: Pay an internet cafe to use their computers (in a public place, so there is no Yichud) better than letting it into your home.

    Google Docs and Microsoft Office can easily be replaced by OpenOffice at OpenOffice.org.

    It is the same as Office, but it’s free, though you will be given an opportunity to contribute.

    google docs CAN be replaced by open office, however open office does not offer true cloud storage or true cloud document editing, and some people including me must have access to those documents anywhere i go without having to worry about whether or not the computer im on has the proper software installed. i need constant access to those documents on the go…including internet cafe’s and the libraries. open office cant do that. besides i was citing that as an example…that is just one of many. i am not against filtered internet i am merely stating that in certain situations, its not possible

    BombManiac since it seems you acknowledge the seriosness of the need to have filtered internet while at the same time your parnossa seems to require you to have unfiltered internet access, I would urge you to consult with a competen Rav who is knowledgeable in such matters he may tell you that even though you must have standard internet you still should have something such as Web Chaver.

    I hesitated to post this but seeing that from the tone of your posts you seem to acknowledge the dangers of the Internet and truly have it only for parnossa purposes I decided that indeed I should post it.

    web chaver is not a bad idea,but i have a system in place where the worst of it is filtered. occasionally something slips through but ive been pretty meticulous in filtering most of it

    Dear bombmaniac,

    I have had good luck sharing files among many computers using Windows Live Sync (sync.live.com) — it uses peer-sharing, much like Napster and other file sharing programs to instantly distribute a set of files among many computers.

    I use it for backing up, too — for instance, when my mother changes a document on her system, it automatically changes the document on my hard drive. This way, despite her unwillingness to backup her documents and photos, I have a complete set of her docs and pics on my computer. When I back up my hard drives, her stuff gets

    backed up.

    I also use it for clients’ office computers, if they have three office computers and one home computers, I share all the documents and email among the four computers. Then, most of their backing up is automatic, and they need only back up one machine.

    i know about that…its just that i need to edit on the fly as well and live sync cant do that…in order to use office live you need to have office installed on the computer itself…which is not so for google docs
