It wasn’t an attack and nothing in your response refutes anything I said.

Not sure i tried. Read my response. To one, i said i didnt know — but i provided you with more information. The second, i agreed with you and again provided you context. What you do with more information is your choice.

I didn’t think you were. I didn’t mean that last post as a put down either. I was more confused as to why you viewed that other post as an attack when you seem to agree with what it said.

“it makes sense for Orthodox minyanim to use Conservative shul property (basement, social hall, etc…) for Orthodox minyanim”

In my neighborhood there is an orthodox minyan in the basement of a Reform Temple.

Elsewhere in the Bronx there is an orthodox minyan in a mosque.

“YU decreed that any Rabbi receiving ordination in its Yeshiva who takes a job at a Conservative shul (where all the jobs were) is automatically stripped of his ordination. ”

To the contrary, YU (and Ner Israel in Baltimore) encouraged its grads to take jobs at conservative shuls (or “orthodox” shuls that lacked mechitzahs) with the hope of making them orthodox. Two famous successes in that were Rabbi Feldman at Beth Jacob in Atlanta and Rabbi Riskin at Lincoln Square — they managed to get them to put in a mechitza and the rest is history.

“I guess you haven’t heard of Avi Weiss”

    This is motzi shem ra.

Years ago I happened to go to the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale at a morning minyan where he was present. There were nine guys, plus one woman whose mother had recently died who wanted to say kaddish. It turned out that the Daf Yomi group had just found a Tosafot that suggested that it might be possible to count a woman as the tenth for a minyan if there were nine guys present.

Rabbi Weiss refused to hear of it and would not allow the woman (or anyone else) to say kaddish until a tenth man arrived. Women have never been counted as part of the ten needed for a minyan at that shul.

I cannot accept what was written about an “Orthodox” shul conducting services in a mosque. What orthodox affiliation is that minyan aligned with?

I wouldn’t be surprised if OO had more leeway this is what would have happened

“A maharat can’t be counted for a minyan?” Is what they would say

I won’t answer for Charlie, but years ago I read about a shul in the Bronx that had services in a mosque. If I recall correctly, it was a struggling shul in a changed neighborhood (as are/were most neighborhoods in the Bronx), and they lost their building. I don’t remember the details (e.g. what part of the mosque’s building they used).

Since you call yourself Talmidchochom, perhaps you can tell us why it’s assur to daven in a mosque.

    @ Rational

You stated a proposition and supported it only to have your point beaten down like a scarecrow full of straw. Must be frustrating. For whatever it’s worth you have my empathy.

    @ Besalel

    Great response!

As regards the shul in the mosque in the Bronx, I found articles referring to Young Israel of Parkchester that got taken over by Chabad, becoming Chabad of the East Bronx. The Chabad website doesn’t list it and neither does the NCYI website, so I suspect the shul has disappeared.
