I need a new phone but don’t want to spend a lot of money. Does anyone know where I can buy a used iphone for cheap? I would rather buy from a heimeshe than from craigslist.

the apple store might sell refurbished ones.

    eBay.

They are NOT cheap thoughm but you can get unlocked ones.

The Apple store does not sell them

Specifying what you’re looking for may help those who have info for you.

    1) Which carrier? (ATT, Verizon, etc)

    2) Locked or unlocked?

    3) Version preferred? Minimum version required? (4, 4s, 5)

    4) Memory size preferred/required? (16, 32, 64)

    5) Condition preferred/required? (like new, decent, etc.)

    6) Warranty length preferred/required? (n/a for a private buy)

    7) Would you be willing to buy one with a plan?

Apple is very restrictive about iPhones, forcing users to buy only through authorized carriers like Verizon and AT&T and forcing all app installations to go through the App Store. AT&T and Verizon may sell “refurbished” phones, but chances are they won’t be much cheaper than new phones as they make their money off of big plans anyways.

An “unlocked” or “jailbroken” iPhone is a phone that has been hacked to get around those restrictions. There are a lot of disadvantages to having a jailbroken phone, such as possibly being locked out of you data plan or having the phone get bricked when it tries to update, and it’s not recommended unless you know what you are doing.

My suggestion is to buy an Android phone. Used Android phones are much more common in the market and you can legitimately do things that can only be done on a jailbroken iPhone.

An unlocked phone will work on multiple networks or overseas, but that only applies to AT&T and T-Mobile phones, since they both use SIM cards

    Troll indicators are flashing:

    1) Brand-new SN, asking for info? Yes.

    4) Questions display a suspicious lack of knowledge? Yes.

    6) Follow-up post seems designed to elicit long explanation? Yes.

wow icot i find ur post to be extremely insensitive. please dont force ur disliking of him to other posters. all hes asking for is legitimate information that can help other posters as well.

Thank you Purplicious. ICOT’s pointers are not only false, but even if they were true they would indicate that I am a troll.

And Mr. ICOT, thank you for giving me a list of things to think about. I didn’t think it would be helpful for me to post all of my criteria here. Also, lighten up. Me and everyone else I know don’t have time to troll the internet.

I think I’ll go with Yserbius’s suggestion and just get an android.

Unfortunately, one style of trolling (which has already been seen on this site), is to ask multiple questions that the asker already knows the answer to and/or doesn’t care what the answer is, just so well-meaning people will waste their time attempting to help.

You obviously mean well, as do the others who responded on this thread. It would be a shame to have that kindness abused by someone who enjoys fooling people and wasting their time.

As I stated, I’m not quite certain that this is a troll thread, but I find it suspicious. If anybody thinks my reasons for suspicion are wrong, you have every right to disagree.

ICOT, I could do all of those things, and indeed I have. But there is a difference between a review posted on some website and advice from people where you can explain who you are and what your needs are.

Finally, I hope I didn’t waste your time. But I certainly wouldn’t waste my time trolling. I have far better and more profitable things to do.

Based on that they can decide:

-How much data they need in a plan

-Who their plan provider should be

-How much memory the phone needs (for videos, music, applications)

-How important long battery life is

    -Which features are needed

-Which screen size and overall phone size is best

Please feel free to ask for additional info and/or clarification.

Also, some advice. Not meaning to lecture, but I suggest that when people respond to your request for info:

    1) You thank them, or at least acknowledge them.

It’s a shame that the well of trust has been poisoned.

If you are a legitimate new poster, welcome aboard.

ICOT, I meant that trolling is a waste of time. Helping someone out certainly isn’t.

I actually did use your list of question to help me determine which phone was right for me. I thank you for that.
