Obviosly this question is for the few that are in or know about the Jewish wedding bands. Les Paul Gibson is one of the top models in electric guitar, and it has an incredible sound (in my opinion) but I never see it. Is there a specific reason to that or do the guitarests not really like it to much?

Very simple: gibson guitars only have humbucker pickups. the most common guitar used is the strat, which is the best for rhythm guitar, because it also has single coil. This is coming from a guitarist and producer.

Does the tone of the Gibson (very fat) clash with the band as opposed to the Strat which has a very clean sound?

it doesn’t clash because you can EQ it out.

no, but the fat tone isnt good for rhythm, its generally a lead. since strats can have both, without getting it customized, for a mere $800, its the prevelant one.

Bands at weddings, etc are only deaf inducing noisemakers pushing the boyishness style music. What difference does it make what brand noisemaker one uses.

Gibson has been increasing prices steadily over the past 10 years or so. Back in the vintage era, there were basically three models of Les Pauls – the Custom, the Standard, and the Special (the Junior is a single-pickup version of the Special). Now, there’s a crazy array of different models, and keeping them straight is a guitarist’s (and marketer’s) nightmare – the Standard, which is the most popular, has been changed drastically, and the closest to a tradition LP Standard is now called a Traditional.

Gibson does offer single coil pickups – the P-90, which is available on the Les Paul. The best known users of guitars with the P-90s are of course The Beatles, on their Epiphone Casino guitars they started using in 1966.

It’s a question of dialing in your sound with your amplifier more than the pickups – the 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue is a good choice for working musicians. My $0.02….

Why does every thread have to come back to the shidduch crisis?

@yeshivishe kup is a Les Paul workable? I just love the sound, feel and body of it

DaasYochid…if we speak about the crisis enough or too many times, perhaps Jewish leadership will get involved!

Whitecar, if you like the way it sounds both alone and with other instruments, it’s a good choice for you.

My decibel meter app peaked at 110 dB at last night’s wedding. That’s the average human pain threshold, according to a website I checked. Average level during dancing was around 100.

I would like to point out that although most don’t use Gibson, 8th day does

Why does it make a difference if a Gibson is used or not used used? How many out there are so sensitive that they can discern the difference in the music coming out of a Gibson versus a non-Gibson. All the music today at Jewish weddings is just loud, very loud noise with virtually no musical creativity.

@onemanband although bentzi Marcus does occasionally use gibsons, the guitar I’ve seen him with most often is actually a fender telecaster. I think the main reason most Jewish bands don’t use lp’s is simply because they are extremely expensive. You can get amazing sound out of almost any decent guitar if you’re good enough and you
know how to work your amps, electric guitar is extremely
versatile in that you can get pretty much any sound you want with some basic knowledge and the right
equipment. One of the best guitarists I know (he’s played
on many recordings as well as weddings), uses an Ibanez gio, which retails at around $200. I know I’m a little late to the conversation but I’m just seeing this thread for the first time now, sorry.

Btw I was at a ishay ribo concert recently
and the lead guitarist was using a Les Paul
