Obama accomplished one of his primary goals: establishing an American national health insurance that is too popular to abolish. Johnson was successful in radically changing the role of government in social programs, which was what he wanted to do. Roosevelt convinced the American people to reject both Communism and Fascism, which many if not most Americans in 1932 were likely futures, and then managed to get the United States into World War II even though most Americans were isolationists (without Roosevelt, there is a good chance American would not be western style democracy, and that the thrid Reich would now be approaching its 100th anniversay). Carter and Hoover failed in all their policies, but both were seen as nice guys. Its too early to tell with Trump though he has managed to put a brake on the leftward shifing of the judiciary which was one on his major goals.

For super-losers, I would suggest Andrew Johnson and William Henry Harrison.

Shows how short-sighted and historically ignorant you are that Grant isn’t even on the list. He’s clearly the most anti-Semitic president in US history. He expelled the Jews from Tennessee. What did Obama do for comparison? Spoke nicely about Palestinians? What did Carter do already as a president? Brokered peace with Egypt?

I’d put Carter as much worse than Obama.

Trump should be on the best Presidents list.

It isn’t so clear about Grant, and in particular how much he had to do with the anti-Jewish order issued by his office, and promptly cancelled. Looking at his whole career, he appears to have good relations with Jews.

@Yserbius2 You seem very offended. I’ll gladly add Grant to the list. Please be mochel me.

Harding was actually one of the best presidents. “one man band” is lying. There is no indication that he was an alcoholic, and he is only known to have had two affairs in his life, one of which was before his presidency.

Worst presidents: Woodrow Wilson, James Buchanan, Barack Obama.

    In chronological order:

Andrew Jackson perpetrated genocide. That should put him at the bottom of any list, particularly one created by Jews. Note that he is Trump’s favorite President.

Pierce’s stupid policies led directly to massive nativist bigotry, a huge financial panic and to the Civil War.

Buchanan continued Pierce’s bad policies and by the end of his term a bunch of states were no longer in the US.

    Andrew Johnson was totally ineffective.

Grant was even worse, presiding over levels of corruption unprecedented in American history. He also allowed a massive financial panic that led to the longest depression of the 19th century.

Harding had levels of corruption that may have surpassed Grant’s, was the only President prior to Trump to have had to pay hush money to a mistress, had an illegitimate child with a different mistress, promoted catastrophic tariff increases that led to a depression all over rural America, and promoted nativist bigotry.

No President since has been as bad as any of these, although Trump’s polices are really similar to Harding’s and may turn out similarly.

Grant and Harding may have been inept and tolerated corruption if not corrupt themselves, but they also made serious efforts to support civil rights laws (remember the Democrats were the party opposed to civil rights until the second half on the 20th century – until then, most Blacks were Republicans). Jackson may have supported a well established policy of forcing Indians to relocate away from population centers, but his policies in what is known as the Jacksonian era led to opening up political participation to a wide range of Americans including Jews. American was arugably moving towards developing an aristorcracy until Jackson shook things up. That the Democrats under Jackson significantly included the working class led in the long run to opening the way for Blacks to eventually join the system (though that was clearly not his intent), and by opening up the political system to the proletariat the US avoided the severe class-based divisions found in Britain. For all your criticism of Pierce and Buchanan, as well as Jackson, that by acting in ways that postponed the Civil War, they significant increased the liklihood of a Union victory – if the civil war has begun 30 years earlier, before railroads, with only muzzle loaders, and with the northern states not have pulled way ahead of the south in terms of industrial capacity, the outcome might have been very different, and the presidents from Jackson through Buchanan all worked to prevent the civil war. It should be noted that support for tariffs has wide support in the past, usually among the “liberals” favoring protecting jobs rather than “conservaties” who see free trade as promoting economic development.

Joe -“I’d put Carter as much worse than Obama.”

Carter only became Pro-muslim after he left office.

The reason Obama is the worse, is not because of Jews, but because of the Iran deal!
This deal will very soon lead the World into WWIII. And it will be a nuclear war.
Now I’m waiting for all the deniers.

Netanyahu said in 2012 That Iran is “six months away from a bomb” It is now over 6 years later Even if Iran gets a bomb today. Obama got us 6 years of extra life on Earth without a nuclear Iran (unless Netanyahu was lying)
amazing! Obama zal er zein gezunt in shtark gave us all 6 years! wow easily the best president!

You so believe the Liberal propaganda – you won’t understand the points!
The main thing is – not to let Iran do whatever it feels like. They are heading to World Conquest.
Of course having Nukes will help them. The US has to Stop them. There once was a Western World, but
their Liberal Mentality has destroyed or about to destroy them!
I’m sure the Great Trump knows this. He’ll first try Stopping iran with Sanctions.
If this doesn’t work, he’ll destroy them, before they get Nukes!

5 Worst Presidents (only taking into account their conduct as President):
    1. Andrew Johnson: (let the worst parts of the South revive after the Civil War, ignored the terrible violence and discrimination against former slaves in the South)
    2. James Buchanan (tried to appease the South and preserve slaverly, wishy-washy approach didn’t stop the Civil War but let the South get a jump on North in advance of the Civil War)
    3. Andrew Jackson: (trail of tears and other horrible crimes against Native Americans–refused to listen to the Supreme Court)
    4. Woodrow Wilson: (racist who reintroduced segregation into the government; authoritarian who got anti-free speech legislation passed and created a federal propaganda office; presided over a very slanted peace after WWI that ultimately led to WWII)
    5. Lyndon Johnson: (committed the US to war in Vietnam under false pretenses; was a disgusting low-life who humiliated subordinates and the office)

Grant, as far as I know, did nothing anti-semitic while President. His expulsion decree was as a general during the Civil War. And if we are going to count pre-President conduct, Grant has to be among the greatest President. He won the Civil War. Without him the USA as we know it would not exist, slavery might still exist in the Confederacy, and the USA probably doesn’t intervene in either of the World Wars (or the South also intervenes on the German side), and who knows where that leaves world history.

Every single one until 2 other presidents have served.

President A gets elected. “Oh, he’s horrible! Our taxes have gone up! That bill he signed! It’s a shanda! Why did people elect him?!”

President B’s turn: “He’s as bad as the last one! Can you believe what he just vetoed?! And he said he would improve education. Taxes are higher than ever!”

President C’s first term: “I can’t believe he sent troops to war! And that international treaty is a joke. I mean, President A never would’ve voted like that”.

President D: “remember the good old days of President A? Low taxes, less crime? He had great immigrant reform and he really helped the education platform. So much better than the current loser.”

My favorite statement here is that Obama “accomplished his goal by passing a health care plan that is too popular to repeal ”
Guess what? That does not equate with being good.
If a president pushed Through a mandate/law/policy that have every citizen receives $100 a week.
It would be horrible policy. It would bankrupt the country but it would be way to popular to abolish.
Simply because there are way more takers than people willing to pay, In this country.
Yes his healthcare is popular. But it’s awful. For that alone he belongs on the list of worst presidents

Doesn’t “worst” depend on what is “good”. For example, if you favor enslaving Blacks, Lincoln was a disaster. If you believe either in “Freedom from religion”, or in having a government support religious establishment, or in not allowing religious minorities (e.g. Jews) to vote than Washington was bad news. If you favor a dull government based on boring hyper-intellectualism, Trump is horrible.

Yserbius, Grant did teshuva. He offered Joseph Seligman the Treasury Department. If Seligman had accepted he would have been the first Jewish cabinet member. Grant also was the first President to attend a synagogue dedication and expressed regret for his expulsion of Jews during the Civil War. However, he did not know how to choose people and was surrounded by corrupt individuals.

Benignuman, on the other hand Wilson appointed the first Supreme Court Justice (Brandeis) over blatant antisemitic objections – he also appointed the first Jewish professors to Princeton. He also explicitly denigrated the Constitution, and especially the system of checks and balances, and fostered the administrative state. BTW, Lincoln also refused to listen to Chief Justice Roger Taney in Ex Parte Merryman and even wrote a letter telling him that it would have been a violation of his (Lincoln’s) oath of office to comply.

Buchanan and Pierce were responsible for the Civil War. Andrew Johnson lost the peace. Harding is the worst since then a blithering idiot who was totally incompetent and presided over unprecedented corruption. Trump is a lot like Harding.

Anyone who lists Obama is just a partisan hack an ignoramus, or both.

The difficult ones are people like Wilson who did a lot of good and a lot of bad.

The worst ones for Jews were Harding and Coolidge who signed the immigration laws that doomed the Jews of Europe.

Wilson did a lot of good and a lot of bad.

He dropped tariff rates to their lowest levels in over six decades. That was good. He vetoed immigration restrictions. That was good. He won WW1. That was food. He lost the peace through his naivety and stubbornness. That was bad. And he was the most racist President prior to Trump. Very bad.

John F Kennedy’s handling of Bay of Pigs was a total disaster and should rank him as one of the worst Presidents.
Also he was assassinated, and without getting too much into the conspiracy theories, it appears that there were a number of parties who wanted him dead. He must have done something really bad to get so many parties to agree to have him killed.

Charlie, wrong. The quotas for Germany and Austria were far from filled. However, the Breckinridge Long ym”s sent instructions to throw up every possible bureaucratic obstacle.

GRATEFULBLAC. JFK admitted that he was at fault. If so many people are the subject of conspiracy theories one could also say that he was doing many things right. However, he was a failure in the sense that he could not get bills through Congress. It took wheeler-dealer LBJ to do that. BTW, LBJ was a cynical, crooked politician. He won a Congressional election with more votes than registered voters. He also said in private about the Civil rights Act of 1964 that “now the n—–s will vote Democratic for 200 years”. On the other hand, he saved many Jews during the Thirties. Some say that his maternal great=grandparents were Jewish, which, of course, would have made him halachically Jewish.
