Please post your opinions (or facts) on yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel for 1st year beis medresh. The new top place i hear is Mercaz Hatorah in Talpiot. I heard great things about it including the learning, warm rabbeim, and overall hashkafa. Thats where I’m leaning to send my son now. Anyone have any comments??? What about Senters,Rabbi Portnoys, Beis????? Dont know enough 🙂 HEHEHE

May 8, 2014 5:50 am at 5:50 am #1014439FriendInFlatbushParticipantWhat happened to Toras Moshe (ToMo)? I have never heard of Portnoys.
It depends on the type of boy going. I think Senter’s is more the Flatbush/In-Town crowd.
Beis is a mix, combination of Chofetz Chaim type guys (but NOT CC guys) and out-of-towners.
Mercaz (Hatorah) may be the “new top place”, but the truth is that Mercaz has been around for many years. Perhaps now is when it is getting more recognized as an outstanding yeshiva. I think a lot of 5-Towns guys go there.
Hatzlacha!

But if you actually want to know my opinion, the chofetz chaim there will actually teach your son how to learn…

May 11, 2014 2:01 am at 2:01 am #1014443popa_bar_abbaParticipantThere is zero chance this is a real post, but for the benefit of the readership I will note that one does not “send” their post-high-school son to yeshiva. The son goes, if the son wants to, and where the son wants to.
May 11, 2014 6:59 pm at 6:59 pm #1014444writersoulParticipantPBA: Oh, yes, they do. If the parents have the money, they send their son. If the parents do not have the money, they do not send their son. And if the parents DO have the money, then they have veto power over where their son goes.
(I’m in the sem parsha right now and it works much the same way.)
