Belzer Rebbe Shlita Speaks Out Against Increasing Chareidi Violence

Speaking at Chanukah candle lighting, the Belzer Rebbe Shlita released a statement against the escalating violence from within the chareidi tzibur. The rebbe stated “If there are those among us who believe they will spread the light of Yiddishkheit through violence, they are mistaken”.

Taking part in the hadlokas neiros was Minister of Education Gideon Saar, who added that Avraham Avinu also worked to bring people closer to Hashem, but did so through gently trying to attract others, not seeking to achieve his goal with violence, which the minister added “hasn’t a chance of succeeding”.

  1. I don’t believe that Belzer Chassidim are responsible for the violence to begin with. Where are the leaders of the sects that are responsible for the violence?

  2. Finally someone from the chareidi community has finally spoken. Interesting that it was also the Belzer Rebbe who visited the injured yeshivah boys in the hospital from Merkaz Harav after the terrible attack. This is am man who does not look to see if anyone is behind him. he does what he feels is right. True sign of a leader.
Guarantee that the other Rebbes and Roshei Hayeshiva will now come out.
It sadly speaks volumes about our so called leadership and what they choose to quickly focus on and what they wait for someone else to take the initiative.

  3. #1- Are you sure some Rebbe is “ordering” the attacks, or perhaps we have some individuals who are deciding to go off on their own, exploiting (or perhaps, filling) a vacuum created by Rabanim who are content to criticize the status quo in Eretz Yisrael (which in all fairness, and from all perspectives, is easy to criticize), but unwilling to actually do anything other than try to get the best deal they can.

  4. Sadly, I’ve read how these misfits who only physically appear to be “charedidi” have been known to totally ignore our Gedolim. It is quite obvious from the way that they are acting, that they are frum in garb only.

  5. #1. I daresay there are NO “sects that are responsible for the violence.” The individuals responsible for the violence are acting on their own, or are members of “microsects” whose leaders encourage them.

Unfortunately, as is always the case with Jews, an entire segment of society (“Chareidim” – a term whose meaning is being diluted and lost), is being blamed for the actions of a few deranged individuals.

  6. #3 and #5, Ultra Orthodox Jews are broken down by sects aka, chasidus. You know it and I know it. They follow some rebbe or leader. Why are you trying to refute that?

I will tell you this, though. No one has focused on a fundamental point. These animals that are involved in this violence are taught from a very young age that anyone that is not like them is treif. Anyone that dresses differently or is not as “frum” as them is frei and they must be shunned at all cost. Their behavior reflects on that lousy chinuch that is instilled in them when they were young. Some of them may not act in violence, but they all have the same mind set and that is to uproot those that are different from within their midst. They cannot tolerate a different point of view. They will never accept “outsiders” to dwell with them. They have a famous phrase ” nisht inzerer”, not one of ours. And that mindest is rampant among all of the ultra orthodox, and that my friends is the root cause of all of this.

  7. The term ‘Chareidi’ means one who trembles (in awe before HaSh-m).
    These thugs are NOT chareidim!
The should be called ‘Machreidim’ – i.e. people who want OTHERS to tremble (before THEM!)
They are lowlives who try to intimidate the defenseless and they should be locked up!

I could not have expressed myself better than you have.
As a side note, it is worth mentioning that many young men I encounter in Chassidic attire in New York have brains in their heads and are not extremists at all. Many actually are “independents” of any rebbe and have no allegiance to any one individual and are perfectly rational individuals. We cannot allow these few sick individuals to hijack frum society and subject it to their ignorant ways.

  9. Keep saying it is Charedi dress; just like treife restaurants with Jewish stars in the window and serve meat and milk They dress charedi but they are far far from it and do not serve any purpose except their own

  10. Galicianer should be ashamed of himself for terming other Jews insects. That’s the sort of language used by anti-Semites and Nazis.

The way in which hilonim (including media and government) have whipped up hatred against haredim is disgraceful — and anti-Semitic.

  11. Actually, at least one part of Toldot Aharon, which is the most extreme group short of Neturei Karta, outright prohibited violence around the time of the Emanuel situation. Others did also.

No, we are not all in Chassidus, because we aren’t even all Chassidim! I would say most Chareidim are not Chasidim.
