Satmar Rebbe Discusses Agreement With Belz

The Satmar Rebbe from Kiryas Yoel, Rav Aron Teitlebaum Shlita, arrived in Eretz Yisrael on Tuesday. The rebbe arrived at Ben-Gurion International Airport during the morning hours, on a Continental Airlines flight.

The rebbe traveled to Eretz Yisroel in honor of the chasnah of a grandson of his brother-in-law. The chosson is Chananya Yomtov Lipa Meizlish, the son of Rav Chaim Tzvi Meizlish Shlita, rav of the kehila and son-in-law of Rav Rav Yisrael Hager of Vishnitz and the great grandson of the Vishnitzer Rebbe Shlita.

Prior to setting out to Eretz Yisrael, the Satmar Rebbe Shlita made his first public statements regarding the recent agreement (http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=114990) between Satmar and Belz, ending decades of disconnect and machlokes.

The rebbe addressed yeshiva bochrim prior to heading for the airport, discussing some of the history surrounding the severed ties, explaining that he will visit “admorim while in Eretz Yisrael, even those who are not part of our camp. We don’t plan to change out ways, fighting on behalf of Hashem, in line with the tradition handed down from our fathers”.

He spoke of the need to continue fighting those who act contrary to the teachings of the previous Satmar Rebbes. The rebbe continued, explaining the importance of clinging to the ways of the previous Satmar Rebbes ZY”A, concluding “those who get it get it and those who do not understand, never will”.

According to the rebbe’s itinerary, he is not going to be in Yerushalayim during his stay in Eretz Yisrael. Chadrei Chareidim reports a meeting with the Belzer Rebbe Shlita will most likely take place in an undisclosed location in the center of the country and it will be a closed meeting.

The rebbe will be in Eretz Yisrael until Wednesday, 29 Shevat.

  1. If someone “gets” what the Stamar Rebbe means when he said “need to continue fighting those who act contrary to the teachings of the previous Satmar Rebbes”. I need to understand why there is only one way and no other way. Dont we see all throught our history differences between, taanaim, amoiraim, rishonim and achronim? Why suddenly is there only one derech of the Satmar Rebbe and nothing else?

  2. He should enjoy his visit l’Tovah and the air, water, roads, foods of Eretz Yisroel plus the mitzvah of walking 3 steps in the land should be a zechus for shalom bein achinu.

  3. how come, when i was in Bnei Brak today, i saw the ZIONISTIC (‘nazi’ anyone) police ‘protecting’ him, closing streets, directing traffic, and watching out for the Rebbe???

are the zionists allowed to do this for satmer or is it just some things they are not allowed to do, but others that they can???

who knows the satmer laws about the zionists??

  4. 6,

Before you cry your crocodile tears, if you don’t know, there is a tremendous Satmar k’hilla in Yerushalayim and many Satmar mosdos. You could learn something from them.

  5. What is the big deal here? The Belzer Rebbe and Monroe Satmar Rebbe are brothers-in-law and they have been seeing each other regularly.
Belz all over the world does not eat Satmar shechita and neither does Satmar eat Belz’s. They do not use each other’s Batei Dinim, and very few of the chasidim are meshadech with each other either.
That will not change anytime soon. The days of violence are long over and a truce has been in place for years. Each group benefits from the chesed organizations of the other and that is OK with everybody.
What is far more damaging is the situation in Satmar. Mesira is so virulent that the price being paid is so damaging that even the judges in the court systems are appalled. It is the worst Chilul Hashem.
Boro Park, Williamsburg, Monroe, London, Bnai Brak and Montreal are all victimized by this enormous sin being perpetrated by rabble-rousers who would rather see housing opportunities; school assistance etc. totally obliterated for ALL if it means that the vehicle for this help comes from the opposing side.
In the time of such a dire economic situation, when community needs are so great, to see all potential aid denied because of Satmar politics, is absolutely unforgivable.
That is a machloike that literally sickens me!!!!

  6. “He spoke of the need to continue fighting those who act contrary to the teachings of the previous Satmar Rebbes”

Let him make peace with his brother.

“those who get it get it and those who do not understand, never will”

I think he doesnt understand the meaning of chassidus in general which is predicated on Ahavas Yisroel as formulated by the Baal Shem Tov.
Maybe he wants to take chassidus in a new direction…

  7. Just remember that this man & his estranged brother “inherited” their positions as Rebbe they did NOT earn it by proving themselves neither as tzadikim nor as talmiday chachomim (I’m not saying that they are or aren’t either or both). The fact that thousands of chasidim follow them doesn’t make them into respectable gedolim. What will make them into gedolim is how they act in their position as rebbe of thousands. I’m not sure where he’s going with this “fighting with all who disagree with the ways of the previous satmar rebbes” but it doesn’t seem like the right direction. I hope its a misquoted statement.

  8. The article misinterpets the phraise of the Rebbe.
The Rebbe Shlit”a was relating to the concept of visiting Admorim not from his camp although not changing from the original ways.
The fact that you may visit admorim who hold differently is something that people who don’t understand never will.
