A newborn baby boy who was delivered by emergency cesarean section after his parents were killed in a horrific crash in Brooklyn has died, according to community leader Isaac Abraham.

Abraham said he was informed early Monday morning that the baby boy, of Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, had died. He only weighed about four pounds when he was delivered early Sunday morning.

“If he would have stayed alive, he would have been in memory and a little reminder to the grandparents of his parents,” Abraham told 1010 WINS. “And now that little boy has been torn away as well.”

The Glaubers were looking forward to welcoming their first child into their tight-knit Orthodox community when their livery cab was hit by a BMW in Williamsburg Saturday as the couple headed to the hospital.

Raizy Glauber, who was 7 months pregnant, decided to go to the hospital because she wasn’t feeling well, relatives said.

“She was premature – couldn’t feel the baby,” said Raizy Glauber’s aunt, Ruchel Bochnel. “They wanted to check it out.”

The Glaubers called a car service to take them because they didn’t own a car.

On their way to the hospital, police said a BMW smashed into the livery cab at the intersection of Kent Avenue and Wilson Street.

Abraham said the livery cab’s engine ended up in the backseat where Raizy Glauber was sitting before she was ejected.

“The woman was thrown out of the car,” he said. “On impact, the husband was killed immediately.”

Police said the expectant mother landed under a tractor-trailer. Witnesses said Nathan Glauber was pinned in the car and emergency workers had to cut off the roof to get him out.

There was a stop sign at the scene, though police said it’s unclear who had the right of way. Police said both the driver of the BMW and a passenger fled the scene.

The Glaubers were both pronounced dead at the hospital. According to the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office, Nathan and Raizy Glauber both died of blunt-force trauma.

Their son was delivered by emergency cesarean section, but had been in critical condition since his birth.

The driver of the livery cab, Pedro Nuniz, suffered only minor injuries.

As the Glauber’s tight-knit community grieves together, they are begging the driver to come forward.

“Give yourself up, make the pain a little easier so that at least we’ll know that you’re not a coward facing charges,” said Abraham. ”you’re already a coward for running.”

Police are still searching for the driver and passenger of the BMW, but said the registered owner of the BMW, who was not in the car, was charged with insurance fraud.

  1. so sad. we were all saying that at least the family has someone to remind them of their children. we were giving them a purpose. at least they lived to have a child, that was their purpose. it was that idea that people felt some what at ease. but now it feels to naught. we will be questioning this tragedy for some time. and questioning is ok, but we must remember to go towards resolution and not anxiety, fear, guilt and blame. may Hashem comfort the children and Zion and we shall see them again very soon.

  2. BD’E This cowardly individual should come forward and give himself/herself up. It’s a horrible event to lose an entire family. The family is reunited if not here then in Hashem’s loving embrace.
