Op-Ed By Ezra Friedlander On Rep. Nadler’s Decision To Support The Iran Deal

ezraAs a grandchild of Holocaust survivors, I am keenly aware of the existential threat a nuclear Iran poses to Israel and the world.

I am not a scientist nor am I an expert on the intricacies of the Iran deal.

Therefore, I cannot add my professional perspective or personal endorsement of the Iran Deal.

My only below is to point out the soul-searching and difficult decision made by Congressman Nadler to support the Iran DeaI. I urge everyone, both critics and supporters of the deal, to read Mr. Nadler’s well-researched and thoughtful statement.

Jerry Nadler’s sobering assessment should be read in its ENTIRETY -it fully recognizes that “no one can pretend that we are choosing between a set of flawless options. These decisions are hard, involving close calls and uncertain future predictions”.

I’d also like to remind everyone that it was Jerry Nadler who said prior to the Iraq War, that “ Iran — not Iraq — was the real threat, and if we removed Iraq as a buffer to Iranian influence and expansionism, Israel and the United States would be left to suffer from the consequences”.

It should also be noted that Congressman Nadler asked for and received unprecedented official Presidential assurances that should Iran “seek to dash toward a nuclear weapon” the United States will take whatever means necessary…including military means” to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Additionally, Congressman Nadler received notification that the United States is prepared to increase funding for Iron dome, Arrow-3 and David Sling Missile Defense Systems.

Congressman’s Nadler’s statement that he is “outraged that some on the Left are making anti-Semitic accusations of dual loyalty or treason when someone, particularly a Jewish member of Congress, decides to oppose the agreement” is also reflective that he understands our rage when opponents of the deal have their patriotism questioned”

Furthermore Jerry Nadler’s fully appreciates Israel’s role and disagrees with those who suggest that Israel’s government or people must not interfere in seeking to shape American decisions on these issues’…emphasizing such statements as a means of silencing an important part of the discussion’.

Mr. Nadler further states: “Israel and Israelis have an absolutely legitimate right to be concerned, given the existential threat they face, and to articulate that concern openly within the American political debate. If Iran were allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, that would represent a fundamental threat to the existence of Israel. A single nuclear bomb on Tel Aviv could destroy the homeland of the Jewish people, causing a catastrophic and irrevocable loss of Israeli lives and threatening the existence of our most important ally in the Middle East. Without Israel raising the alarm, the world might not have prioritized this threat and we would be in a weaker position than we are in today to respond to this terrifying question”.

All of the aforementioned underscores Jerry Nadler’s thorough and keen understanding of the implications of the Iran Deal and I urge everyone to take the time to read the Congressman’s full statement to fully appreciate how he arrived at his decision.

  1. One doesn’t need to read Mr Nadler’s excuse to vote for the ‘deal’. Any “deal” with Iran is based on sheker. The Iranians will do whatever they want, deal or no deal. If Obama is in favor of it, it follows that it isn’t good for Israel, or the United States. Mr Nadler has made his allegiance known It is with Obama, not with Jews, not with Americans. There I’d no excuse to vote in favor of this joke of an agreement

  2. Ezra please tell mr nadler:

  3. It should be noted this is obviously a bad deal because it ENDS in 10-15 years. That means in 10-15 years Iran can become a Nuclear threshold state with ZERO break out time. And soon it can also get $110 billion PLUS Economic Boost from new business with Europe from which it will send missiles and other arms to Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and add to Irans military, war ships, war planes and submarines. In a few years the deal allows for Ballistic missiles as well. Imagine Jihadist Iran in 10-15 years with Nuclear Ballistic Missiles aimed at the USA AND Israel and Saudi Arabia and Egypt and UAE and Bahrain and Kuwait. To show the lack of backbone of the administration Iran was allowed to use its own technicians to “investigate” if Iran Lied regarding military purposes in its nuclear program! And As Senator Menendez said the Sanctions can NOT be ReImposed once lifted as per Section 26 by the US and EU. This Deal Makes it Clear A Vote For is Actively Joining With Hamans Deal and A Vote Against is Being Like A Modern Day Esther. (there is no middle)
A side note is the Pressure (BULLYING) by the President on this matter is horrible. The Deal is out on the WHite House web site and elsewhere for all to see for themselves. It has been out for many weeks now. Personally repeating the same points and even making several press conferences and Open Letters to Newspapers regarding the SAME deal is an example of Pressure Bullying. This for the President is a One way conversation.

  4. Would POTUS’ promise to use military force have more weight than the letter from Pres Bush to Sharon that said the Peace Process should take into account existing settlement blocs which POTUS said Now has no legal value?

  5. Ezra after all the good you have done don’t sell yourself out parnasah comes from the rbh . jerry Nadler turn his back on us there is no need to defend him.

  6. Ezra – What do you charge for such an “Op-Ed”?

How Boro Park keeps electing this liberal is mind boggling. When will we say enough?

Haven’t forgotten your “Op-Ed” supporting Christine Quinn and her lifestyle.

    Highest bidder?

  7. Why is commentary by Ezra Friedlander important? He has worked in the past to help extreme left wing pro-toeiva marriage politicians in NY win elections. Clearly a major chilul Hashem.

This is not a voice our community needs to hear.

  8. Typical of Ezra to be a paid employee of that fat pervert, Jerry Nadler. Too bad Schumer, Menendez, Leiberman, Engel, etc… are not interested in hiring Ezra. Otherwise he would be defending their opposition to this dangerous “deal”. Jerry is the lowest of the low. You can say the same about Ezra by the “clients” he represents. If he was paid to ring a church bell, he wouldn’t hesitate for a second. But don’t worry. The mushchus, Nadler, will still be honored by some Chillul Hashem Mosod.
Ezra, when will you come out with your strong endorsment of Hillary Clinton and why its a Mitzva & a chiyuv to support her? Does she have your phone number?

  9. Ezra,

    Shame on You.

You support and then defend these low life ultra-left wing liberal Politicians. You support and bring members of the toeva community into the Frum Community…….

    For what? Money???

You should always remember that the Rebono Shel Olom decides how much you will make and how much you will retain. You don’t have to stoop so low to find business. There is enough out there without having to shmutz yourself with all those low-lifes you bring into our community.

  10. Is it sad, that money controls people who call themselves “frum” and are willing to sacrifice their brothers in Israel just so that they can make a few extra bucks in America. I find it interesting that when Schumer came out against it where was Friedlander to support his decision it looks like his connections with Nadler should be investigated. He is only interested in his own well-being politically and financially but the lives of his brothers and sisters and isreal have no meaning and value. It sad it but he showed his true feelings about The jewish People right before Rosh hashanah. He wants hashem to look at him favorably while on his own people this Friedlander does not look favorably

  11. If Schumer had the guts to do what is right despite it’s ramifications it’s pretty embarrassing that a son of a holocaust survivor would sell his soul for money. Ezra the money and power that the politicians offer you for your services is no excuse to stick up for one who has betrayed the Jewish people. I would hope that you would do some soul searching and apologize to the Jewish people.

  12. Mr. Ezra Friedlander wants us to read “Jerry Nadler’s assessment in its ENTIRETY” ? I don’t think he or Nadler read the Iran deal in its ENTIRETY. New statements and deals keep on coming up that no one knew was in the deal. Do you remember the famous picture of Neville Chamberlain holding up the deal he reached with Hitler and the famous quote, “peace in our time”? Well years from now there will be new pictures with all of those who were for this deal.
You want us to take the time to read the Congressman’s full statement to fully appreciate how he arrived at his decision. Well read the full deal then come back to us.
    Even friends make wrong dissison

  13. Ezra

Obama said, Obamacare is good and made lots of promises, he also said gay marriage is good, and made some more promises, he also claims to have fixed the economy, he also said that giving amnesty was good as well, he spoke all about what a close friend he is of Israel etc….

Don’t you get it Ezra, Obama says and does whatever it takes to get his agenda through! His promises, commitments and words mean absolutely nothing at all!

To be fair I really don’t think you actually believe for a second that Obama’s promises and commitments in these situations mean anything, as you know good and well how the game is played.

You know good and well as well that Mr. Nadler had no intentions of doing the right and moral thing, and was doing everything to find an “excuse” to succumb and give into the political pressures of the Obama administration thinking that he’ll gain some brownie points…

You wrote a very nice defense based on promises and talking points made by the Obama administration, but for Heavens sake Ezra, you know how pathetic you sound when you base your arguments on a know serial lairs words.

Ezra, it’s very tough for someone in your position to be strong and do the right thing but for once be strong and do the RIGHT thing, NOT the Politically correct thing,

If Schumer was able to do it… it’s very sad if you can’t!

    And remember

OBAMA dislikes you just as much as he dislikes Israel and everyone else who gets in his way. and don’t think for a second that by you agreeing with his stupidities he likes you one bit more!

  14. Ezra you forgot to mention that you are on nadlers payroll YOU should be ashamed of yourself for selling out your brothers and sisters for a few dollars you know its a bad deal and it shouldn’t be supported by any jew for sure not someone who represents our community but the thought is that nader doesn’t care about us he doesn’t even campaign in our community ezra its chodesh ellul its still time to do tesuveh

  15. I don’t know Mr. Friedlander but you must be joking. To defend a person’s right to an opinion is one thing. To defend an opinion that puts other Yidden into real danger is something else. You have no clue, repeat no clue, what this danger is, but I would guess that Netanyahu and others do know. You must follow their opinion the same way you follow other experts on Halacha. That’s correct . This is what the real world is all about. To defend a congressman because you have influence or you think you do, is shameful; and probably, though I am not a Rav, against Halachah. When a Jew says you are putting other Jews in jeopardy, you must believe him. Friedlander , you are a sellout and admit it.

  16. This Ezra guy really discust me!!! He would of backed the pact with Germany before WW2 if he would of had chamberland on his payroll By him its all about the money
What type of person would defend this crazy congressman who officially represent us but really doesn’t because the majority of his constituents Are against the bad bad deal and what type of sick defense is this that Obama insured him that if Iran break the deal he will come with full force against them we all know that this liberal president won’t do nothing (as we have seen what his red lines mean in the past)it was just that our congressman needed a born to throw to his constituents and Barack Hussain threw it to him shame on you Ezra shame on you that you use the Holocaust in a way to make money as you represent yourself as a legit defender of deal that’s may unfortunately bring the next Holocaust upon us Shame on you you fraud

  17. And what will you do, so-called ‘askan’, when the “presidential promise” to use military force turns into a force against Israel for doing their thing – will you take out your cannon and run yourself to fight Iran???

  18. To Mr. Friedlander,

How can you trust and verify with Iran. They have killed our brothers and sisters in Israel by giving rockets to Hamas and Hezbollah. When Hitler said he will kill the Jews all of the world powers were silent. This is the same idea here. We are giving them $150 Billion (which is $6 Trillion in our economy) who are going to fund terrorism around the world. We are making a deal with an enemy who wants to destroy us. I don’t understand how you can you stand with Congressman Jerold Nadler. My grandmother survived the Holocaust. You are trusting a Hitler Ayatollahs in Iran. Congressman Nadler should be ashamed of himself. I think you are making a mistake as a “Frum Jewish Democratic operative” to still support Congressman Nadler and not care about the consequences of his action.

I think by 2016 the Community should run someone against Congressman Nadler. He has taken advantage of us. This issue is way too dear to us. Mr. Friedlander you failed us all.

  19. Total disgrace! I urge all of my fellow yidden to throw out Mr. Nadler and all the other liberal Democrats in Congress wherever they are hiding. Send them all packing! They are bringing destruction on Israel as well as on America. Mr. Friedlander, what can I say? What a fool you are ! Not because I think you believe what you are saying but that you think that we would sell out our 6 million brothers in Israel like you have sold yourself out with this pathetic article which only confirms what we knew all along about you. I just wish you would have told us earlier about this article. Maybe we could have outbid Mr. Nadler. Shame on you!

  20. I wasn’t shocked that Jerry Nadler expressed support for the “Genocide Bill”, and am not surprised that Ezra Fried lander supports Jerry Nadler. Jerry Nadler was awarded the title “most liberal congressman” quite a few times, and Ezra Friedlander never disappoints when it comes to support liberals and liberal policies. I am disappointed, however, that we allow Jerry Nadler and Ezra Friedlander to claim themselves as our representatives.

  21. Mr. Friedlander,
The following are the words to YOUR national anthem”
    “Vehakesef Ya’ana es Hakol”

    Mr. Nadler,
Just remember that 2016 is also a congressional election year.

This is not just about Israel. It is even more so about the “good ole U.S.A”

By the time the 2016 election comes about, it will be clear to all that Iran is violating the deal. They may even have a nuclear weapon AT THAT TIME.

Considering that Iran is now self-certifying and self-inspecting with the U.N’s blessing, nothing will stop them now.

There is no longer even the threat or fear of possible war.

Obama and company made a feeble protest when Russia announced that it is selling s-300 missiles to Iran. So now the war option will be permanently off the table.

Mr. Nadler, how will you explain to the voters in your district how Iran was somehow able to develop working atomic weapons BEFORE the 2016 election at secret locations?

    What will you say then?

  22. All this goes to show what a little money and כבוד can do to a person .
Blind him to the ground . There are non jewish people very afraid of this deal as well. How can you both Ezra And Nadler even think of excusing yourself !!
It’s no different than you would see someone drowning and walk away , of course with an excuse , and it may even a Mitzva!. Don’t you in shame within your own selves. Are you descendants of Haman? ר”חל detailed , shmetailed , NONSENSE ! DISGUSTING TO PUT UP THIS picture to look at the proudness to protect Nadler . Is your job at Stake? Is your fame at stake? What is this really all about? The basic fundamental “yid” is totally missing here , its dead , it’s cold as ice . How can We go so wrong Hundreds if not thousands of People donate their kidneys just to save one’s life , and sometimes its not even 100% sure that it will succeed ! And than this can happen ! OH! do we have to daven , not for Iran, that hashem will take care of with our tefilos, but for souls of these people are so lost and blind . If you cant handle the politics, stay away from it , it comes with these tough decisions and if you can’t make a tough decisions , don’t put yourself in that position . Sorry,to have to say all this , but my heart hurts! I had to vent it out . (Watch the next opinionator say אל תדין……… )

  23. Look no ones saying everyone MUST agree with the majority opinion of most in our community and Israel supporters around the world but some of the rational and reasoning in your defense of ‘Ole Jerry is ridiculous! So first of all don’t start your pshetel with the “grandson of survivors” line! Pu-leeze!! Nearly everyone is! (Either directly or indirectly) and it doesn’t make you more insightful or give you a sharper image of the situation! So now # 1) That the President made “Unprecedented assurances to him if they violated the deal he’d use military action” … Phew!! As long as he’s beholden to Jerry! 2) He’l increase arrow missile defense to Israel… WHO CARES!!? Let the U.S. send them potatoes (I mean literally potatoes… The Idaho ones) for that matter! We’re talking Nuclear capabilities and $100 billion off fresh funds for their friends! 3)That he recognized years ago Iran as a greater threat than Iraq! Very impressive! Give him a “Visionary of the Decade Award” but again… WHO CARES!! It’s a disastrous bill that’s foolish and dangerous! 4) That he called out the left and liberal groups using inflammatory rhetoric for the opposition members…. That’s great but we all agree that we disagree against this bill not based on allegiance or ulterior motive or party or politics… It’s based off the facts and structure of the deal and it stinks… Bad!! A man can disagree with a large portion of his constituents (While never too wise) but for a (his?) political hack to use a garbled set of really bad reasoning to defend him is just pathetic!

  24. playing devil advocate: how come blame ezra blinded by money and cry foul when schumer eschewed by left as AIPAC puppet? IMHO bad deal because sum zero game and it raises Iran legitimacy, soft power

  25. One thousand dollars a month to be exact. Look it up it’s all on public record.

Mr. Nadler, would you have supported this deal if it was made by a Republican president?!?!?

  26. So, Ezra Friedlander, you are a grandson of Holocaust survivors. Well I am a son of Holocaust survivors. My parents were more bitter about kapos and Jewish collaborators than they were about the Nazis themselves.
May I suggest you retract what you wrote immediately. You can say it was written by a secretary or something like that. How would you like your name to appear in future history books?
The Jewish community will now understand what Nadler really is and will unite once and for all in the next election to finally rid ourselves of this traitor of his people. His career in Congress is over. And a hundred Rebbeishe eineklech won’t save him.

  27. Has any of you criticizing Ezra and calling him a traitor actually read the statement? Personally I find it quite convincing although not being an expert cant know for sure. And don’t worry, I’m very right wing. Much of the damage from this deal will occur wether congress opposed it or not. Ezra was not agreeing with anything in Nadlers statment only presenting it as worthy of reading and I agree 100%! After redoing it I truly feel the possibility on by sides and its not easy at all to simply reject with no considerations.
And I’m very hurt that a fromm Jew is attacked so fiercely with out checking out all the details. Ezra is at best supporting a reasonable response for the difficult decisions to be made possibly delaying war for 5 years, or at worse is missing something in analysis or a bit gullible or naive. I think this certainly qualifies for Dan lcaf zchus at a time when unity is essential. Zion will be.redeemed with kindness.
If anyone has strong response to Nadlers statement please reply. I have not seen some real debate here just deep feelings against what is yet unproven to be a wrong vote.

  28. Nadler will be just like a squished bugbug in the annals of history. I truly believe his claim of Judaism is completely and utterly false.

  29. Why friedlander is dangerous.

As a grandchild of holocaust survivors….I to have an opinion. Developed and unbiased, thoroughly researched and unpaid for.

This very morning jews all across the world read from the holy torah, ki hashochad ye ‘ aver einei chachomim….

The ribon haolam assures us how the human nature operates.

Ezra, when one services the community as a shtadlan with daas torah they can become a moshe sherrer.chalilah when one sells himself for a dollar then for what won’t you sell yourself. Ezra you can be a walking talking kiddush Hashem why would you do less for you and your legacy.
Ezra I say this to you in public as that is where you speak to me from.
As far as the matter at hand stay away from nefashos as they are not yours to pasken.

Gedolei hador are connected to better sources than those who reassured your employer and client.

Keep at the tehilim and stay away from areas where you are being forced to compromise.

  30. I don’t care what Nadler says and I don’t care what the papers of Obama’s deal have printed on them. Making a deal with the Ayatollah is making a deal with the Devil.

  31. Until that time that Ezra Friedlander gives equal time to explaining why Benjamin Netanyahu feels the Iran deal endangers the life of every single inhabitant of Israel and the life of every single Jew outside of Israel, I lose every speck of respect for Ezra.

Mr Friedlander will no longer be able to deliver any votes to politicians, because of the lack of trust in him by Jews, until he does an about face and publicly scolds Mr. Nadler for this move.

Big mistake on Mr Friedlander’s part! He is betting on people having short memories, but he lost it all. Goodbye Mr Friedlander.

  32. Woe to the Jewish Community that we have lost so much in golus. If only we had a central leadership, the edict could go out to stay away from Friedlander at all costs. He is dangerous for the Jewish people he is pro same sex marriage and willing to watch Israel from the sidelines as she lives in fear in the shadow of Iran… Friedlander is dangerous and should be put in cherem. If the Jewish community could excommunicate and isolate him, no politician would ever huddle with him.

  33. Even if every word Mr. Friedlander says were true, he still has the basic obligation of making a diclaimer that he works, and is closely associated with Nadler. Making his piece look like an objective op-ed, written by a concerned Askan is not honest. In general, Mr. Friedland has many political interests and should never pose as a community representative.

  34. In reply to A Jew Who Cares post, is Nach or Tanach a book of loshon hora? Who was given the heater to publish chumashim? Tanach is replete with instances where Jews were evil for the sake of money and Kovod.

  35. Hikind should park his double decker tour bus, covered with images of the Ayatollah Ali Khameini, and leave it outside Friedlander’s home. Hikind is taking the bus on visits to pro-Iran deal representatives.

  36. If Ezra is really “ON THE SAME PAGE AS EVERYONE” like he claims to be, (hahahahaha) Ezra ought to get a van like Hikind’s covered with images of the Ayatollah Ali Khameini and visit pro-Iran deal representatives.

  37. I couldn’t of said it better myself this guy in the comments had it out beautifully

“Look no ones saying everyone MUST agree with the majority opinion of most in our community and Israel supporters around the world but some of the rational and reasoning in your defense of ‘Ole Jerry is ridiculous! 38. “Much of the damage from this deal will occur wether congress opposed it or not.”

There is actually a lot of good in the deal and a lot of not-so-good. It will set back Iran’s nuclear program by years.

And since the deal is going into effect with or without the US participating, the only real consequences of the Congress voting down the deal would be failure to remove US sanctions. There is a good case to be made for that, but don’t delude yourself into thinking that it will have any more effect on the mullahs than the sanctions against Castro have had.

  39. Message to yeshivaworld and other media outlets. Freidlander should be ignored. Then the Hilary’s and the nadlers won’t pay him anymore.

  40. Ezra;
I knew your Zaidy, ZTL, very well.
He lived, breathed and davened with the pain of the Holocaust and his Ahavas Yisroel was unlimited.
I hope they shield him, as well as the other Lisker Tzaddikim ancestors from your statement in Gan Eden.
If he were alive today, he would be pained by any reference to him in this statement supporting Nadler’s position of voting in favor of creating a nuclear Iran power.
I looked at Nadler’s website, and there is no nachas to be gained there.
Ezra do you also support Nadlers positions on the baby killers of Planned Parenthood? Or his celebration of GLBT parade? or his defense of Tranny rights?

  41. “Ezra do you also support Nadlers positions on the baby killers of Planned Parenthood? Or his celebration of GLBT parade? or his defense of Tranny rights?”

Sory to say it, but it seems Ezra is on whatever “page” yields him the most money! Hes page-flexible. One day this page, the other day that page. Whoever fills his tin cup most.

  42. Ezra!! Looks like you need some help (ezra) , there is about one or two geniuses here that have a half pitiful word for you ,otherwise you just blew it. iF I were you I would look back a little and see what brought you to this downfall. AND DO TSHUVA !. Every yid can do tshuva as you see from menashe . Hide your pride and do whats right , hard it may be , but rewarding it will definitely be , in do time , show some strength , real strength and do what you got to do . No one knows better than you what u have to do . the quicker the better . this is my opinion for whatever it’s worth. i’m not a baal mussar or rav , but there are out there qualified people to help . Get it done and you wont regret it . Do it for yourself !! Forget what they all say here , tomorrow they’ll be on the next topic and forget about this one . Nevertheless do what you got to do and correct the issue . Again for yourself. By the way I almost never right here its a waste of precious time. I just happen to see this article and I also got an email from nadler which I didn’t read , so I looked and got hooked. A kapital tehillim does much more than all these comments . I’m not a tzadik
but I was on the other side a few times in my life already , cancer, coma, respirator dialysis , kidney transplant coronary disease and a pinched nerve . . Life is short let’s all make the best out of it later it’s too late

A chasiva v’chasima tova to all , ahavas chinam is very powerful lets try to use it .
