Gafni Continues to Disavow Peleg Faction Causing Dissension in Ranks of UTJ

The continual disavowment of the Degel Hatorah leadership with regards to being associated with the Peleg faction is continuing. Moshe Gafni, the chairman of the Finance Committee and Chairman of Degel Hatorah, met with the leading officers of the Knesset Guard and denounced the radical fringe group of protesters during that meeting.

The Peleg faction attacked members of Knesset Guard during the protests which it carried out next to the Knesset last week.

Gafni disavowed their actions and said, “They may look like us, but they are not a part of us and we are not them.” Gafni is continuing his policy and the policy of the party to disavow any connection to the Peleg faction. Last week he spearheaded a campaign to get other Charedi leaders to disavow connections to the group and denounce, in the strongest sense of the term, the actions of the group. According to Gafni and the other leaders who signed, the Peleg faction does not represent the Charedi community.

The letter, which so far has met with controversy, and whom many in the Agudas Yisroel group have refused to sign, including Health Minister Yaakov Litzman, has not taken effect. The few who have openly supported the letter were members of the Shas party, who also met with the Knesset Guard and apologized while denouncing the attack against them.

  1. It is a sad that condemning the chilul Hashem of Pelef is actually controversial. How low have some in our community fallen? It is time to recognize that this is not violence by some wayward hooligans but is rather violence that is supported by many higher ups.

  2. One can be for the medinah, or against it. If you support the idea of a zionist state (and its inevitable never ending war with the goyim), you have to be prepared to serve in the army. If you oppose the state, meaning you don’t support the existence of a zionist sovereign nation-state, and refuse to serve in its army, then you can’t expect to schnorr money from them. Real hareidim such as Satmar are consistent. The Religious Zionists are consistent.

  3. If Member of Knesset Litzman refuses to condemn those who attack the Knesset guards, he should resign his seat as a Member of Knesset. He can support violence as much as wants but let us see what happens when a mentally disturbed Sephardi attacks a health service worker. What is the difference between a mentally disturbed Sephardi attacking a health service worker and the mentally disturbed Peleg youths attacking Knesset service workers?

  4. Chareidim do not schnorr money from the medinah.
As the Chazon Ish said, chareidim try to get back some of the money that the al-pi-Torah illegitimate state steals from us via taxes such as VAT that everyone pays.
Much of our taxes go to support all kinds of assur programs or other “cultural” programs that only the secular or RZ “benefit” from.
Trying to get minimal returns on our money is not schnorring.
