Rep. Devin Nunes Sues CNN “MOTHER OF FAKE NEWS” For $435M In Response To “Hit Piece”

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., sued CNN for defamation on Tuesday, accusing the cable network of publishing a “demonstrably false hit piece” about him amid his high-profile opposition to the Trump impeachment inquiry.

The 47-page lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, accuses the liberal network of publishing “numerous egregiously false and defamatory” statements about Nunes on Nov. 22, 2019 when journalist Vicky Ward reported claims that Nunes met with Ukranian prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, in Vienna in 2018 to dig “up dirt” on Hunter and Joe Biden.

Nunes, who has been leading GOP opposition to the House Democratic impeachment inquiry in the House Intelligence Committee, says he “did not go to Vienna or anywhere else in Austria in 2018” and “has never met” Shokin.

“CNN is the mother of fake news. It is the least trusted name. CNN is eroding the fabric of America, proselytizing, sowing distrust and disharmony. It must be held accountable,” the lawsuit, obtained by Fox News, states.

Nunes is seeking at least $435,350,000 in compensatory and punitive damages.

CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

  1. Kein yirbu. This Nudnick (aka Nunes) is the same jerk who back in the first months of the Trumpkopf’s tenure raced to the WH to share “secret information” he had received from an unknown source about spying on the President when it turned out he had received that information from the WH in the first place. You may recall he was removed as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee by his fellow Republicans for the duration of the investigation. He also has several other lawsuits pending including suing:

¤ Two California farmers , for conspiring to damage his 2018 reelection by asking that Nunes not be allowed to call himself a “farmer” on the ballot.

¤ The Democratic campaign group for attempting to interfere with his private “investigation”into ties between President Trump and Russia when he was chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
¤ Twitter and a couple of parody accounts, including @DevinCow, who has called Nunes “a treasonous cowpoke.” He is asking for $250 million for emotional pain and suffering.
¤ The publisher of his ’ hometown paper, the Fresno Bee, for writing that he had a financial interest in a winery sued by an employee who was asked to work on a charity cruise where there was all sorts of pritzus.
¤ Esquire magazine for publishing an article Nunes claims defamed him by writing about the Nunes family dairy farm and highlighting the fact that it wais not in California, but in Iowa The article also noted how the Iowa dairy farms relied upon undocumented workers. This resulted in a claim for $75 million in reputational damages. (Guess who also seems to have benefited from undocumented workers at his family business).

  2. I don’t know all the facts, but lawsuits by public figures against news organizations require proof of actual malice, not merely mistakes that are falsehoods.
