US Supreme Court Won’t Take NY Ex-Assembly Speaker Silver’s case

The US Supreme Court is declining to take up the case of former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who is serving a 6.5-year prison sentence after being convicted in a corruption case.

The high court declines to take up the Democrat’s appeal.

Once one of the three most powerful state officials, Silver was ousted as speaker in 2015 and was convicted later that year. His original conviction was overturned on appeal, but he was convicted again in 2018. Part of that conviction was then tossed out on another appeal, leading to yet another sentencing in July.

Silver, who is 76, began serving his sentence in August.

In the part of the case that survived the appeal process, Silver was convicted in a scheme that involved favors and business traded between two real estate developers and a law firm. Silver supported legislation that benefited the developers. The developers then referred certain tax business to a law firm that paid Silver fees.

Two justices, Neil Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas, say they would have heard Silver’s case.

  1. Its surprising that even two justices voted to grant cert. This guy was the ultimate swamp creature, even by Republican standards, and enriched himself and his friends/family through bribes and other illegal means. His cases has been reviewed and appeals denied on multiple occasions. It was disgusting that so many convicted felons (both yidden and goyim) were pardoned by Trump simply based on their connections or “contributions”.

  2. Gadolhachamorim
What is really disgusting is to have a so called yid who has no Hakoras Hatov to a president who was BY a ALL ACCOUNTS good for the Yidden (Chazal would have praised him for that, as they did other kings who were good to us, even though in their private lives they were not Toradic)

Also a yid DOES not belong in jail, period ! Unless he is a physical danger to the people around him. In fact one of the greatest mitzvos we have is Pedion Shevuim.

I don’t understand how YWN doesn’t feel guilty of having CHILLUL HASHEM posts in the comment section.

People who spit on the Torah should not be allowed to comment, this is supposed to be a yiddish site
