SHOCK: Jew-Hater Al Sharpton Given Podium at NYC Interfaith Rally to Honor Pittsburgh Synagogue Massacre Victims

An interfaith gathering was held at Temple Emanuel in Manhattan on Sunday, following the horrific Shabbos morning massacre at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Among those speaking and attending were Mayor Bill DeBlasio, Cardinal Dolan
Rabbis Joe Potasnik and Michael Miller, Imam Al-Hajj Talib and members of the Commission of Religious Leaders.

One of the guests was the “Reverend” Al Sharpton, the anti-semite, who fueled the Crown Heights riots more than two decades ago.

Al Sharpton wasn’t always an unrepentant MSNBC star, and first-in-line to agitate a racial situation anywhere in the country. Twenty-seven years ago a tragic car accident in Crown Heights Brooklyn escalated into a pogrom against the Jewish people. The media usually gives it a politically correct description: “violence between the area’s Blacks and Jews.” But the violence was not two-sided. The Crown Heights riot was an attack on the Jews by the neighborhood’s Caribbean community, fueled in large part by Al Sharpton, the “Reverend” who does not believe in the commandment about “bearing false witness.”

Sharpton called Jews “diamond merchants” during the aftermath of the Crown Heights riots, which took place in Brooklyn in 1991. Sharpton, who led protests that led to the riots, said at the time “If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house.”

As Sundays gathering, Sharpton said he previously was outraged after the 2015 shooting at Emanuel Church in Charleston which left nine people murdered. He said he called the victims “The Emanuel 9″. He said we need to be equally outraged of the Tree of Life 11”.

This is the same Al Sharpton, who on the third day following the tragic Crown Heights car accident, joined Sonny Carson and led a march. The marchers proceeded through Crown Heights, carrying anti-semitic signs and an Israeli flag was burned. Rioters threw bricks and bottles at police; shots were fired at police and police cars were pelted and overturned, including the Police Commissioner’s car.

Riots escalated to the extent that a detachment of 200 police officers was overwhelmed and had to retreat for their safety. On August 22, over 1,800 police officers, including mounted and motorcycle units, had been dispatched to stop the attacks on people and property.

This is the “reverend” who is now preaching “peace and love” and is called upon to remember the 11 Jews gunned down while in their Synagogue on a Shabbos morning.

  1. Thank you ywn for stating the truth. The truth is unfortunately a rare commodity nowadays. I see sharpton has gotten kashered by the usual apologists, next maybe they’ll have sarsour.

  2. I’m not a bleeding heart liberal nor am I thrilled to be defending Sharpton. But that was 27 years ago. Is it possible perhaps he’s matured & a little more rational these days? After all, even though he’s most certainly a very strong supporter of black causes. Still when is the last time that he’s said anything inflammatory about Jews? (Unlike Farrakhan)

  3. I share much of the contempt for the old Sharpton and haven’t fully accepted his “redemption” as a more “mature and rationale” leader. However, is there some benefit to have his voice condemning anti-Semitism heard among the Afro-American community that otherwise would have tuned out a stage mostfly full of White guys in suits?

  4. Having led the only pogrom (organized group violence directed at Jews and supported or tolerated by the authorities), he certainly is an expert.

  5. Replying to “Joseph” and his disgusting remarks. First, your demeaning of Jews that don’t fit your vision is repugnant and vile. Obviously you have no understanding of Klal Yisroel. Second, the congregation is Conservative not Reform, although that makes little difference.

  6. A goy can do teshuva too. If he hasn’t said anything inflammatory in the last few years it means he changed for the better. If teshuva is good for Hashem then it’s good for us too.

  7. After the murder of Jews at a “synagogue” in Pittsburgh, the ADL listed acts of antisemitism in the US that resulted in the death of Jews. Crown Heights and Yankel Rosenbaum, HY”D, and Anthony Graziosi, who was murdered two weeks after for blacks mistakenly believing he was Jewis, were not even mentioned.
People are trying to whitewash black antisemitism in the US.

  8. Josephs remarks are not disgusting at all. Its certainly true that you can’t vouch for the Jewishness of any reform or conservative community. Sure this was a tragedy, but so are these temples a tragedy!

  9. @Joseph @Justasec
It is mamash so sad and quite disturbing to see your comments. If there’s one, most basic thing to learn from this horrific tragedy, it is to learn how the thinking you’ve displayed has no place.
When there’s a conversation about giyur and/or patrilineal descent, sure–chime with your halachic perspectives.
But to just write off all non-observant Jews just like that? That is extremely narrow-minded thinking, and exactly what murderers and Nazis have to teach us. It does not matter if we are chassidish or litvish, chareidi or YU, Orthodox or not.
And to display that thinking now, in the wake of a tragedy, is what makes it vile and disgusting.

  10. Why isn’t YWN slamming Chaim Deutsch who is standing directly behind this Jew-hater?

Let’s be blunt here. Deutsch knew ahead of time that Sharpton was going to be there and would speak. It was all over Twitter for many hours before the event, and Deutsch tweets all day. He knew. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. And even if he DIDN’T know, he should have immediately walked out and told everyone “I DON’T STAND NEXT TO ANTI-SEMITES”.

  11. Jewish unity, 20 years ago they may have been unobservant Jews, but due to the Reform and Conservative movements many of these “synogogues” members, and sometimes even most members, are not Jewish at all. Whichever way you want to cut it’s a fact of life.

  12. “A goy can do teshuva too.”
While you are correct, just from ironic perspective that it is really odd to include him – out of all people why give it to him?

  13. For all those who question the legitimacy of the kadoshim who were slaughtered on Saturday AM because they were davening in a Conservative shul, I suspect your despicable words have painted targets on the backs of you and your own loved ones the next time a tragedy befalls the tzibur. Every time I think we have seen the lowest possible level of empathy here on YWN, you guys insist on coming along and saying we can descend to even lower levels of depravity in our contempt for anyone who does not follow our hashkafah. .

  14. Gaon, why harp on what someone did over 2 decades ago IF at this point in time his actions and opinions changed? I fail to see the logic of this reasoning. Do we want to keep our enemies, enemies?

  15. Gadolhadorah, if the “hashkafa” you follow is acceptance of “Jews” as “Jews” regardless if they are “Jews” from the father’s side or if their mother “converted” in a sham conversion, if your hashkafa includes acceptance of gay marriage or support those who support gay marriage and other immoral acts, if you support abortion or those who support abortion, if you are ok with Jews eating tried, Jews violating the Shabbos and all other halachas, then you have no hashkafa at all. At least we have hashkafa, you have none at all.

Empathy is a separate issue. When innocent people are murdered it is a tragedy regardless if the victim is Jewish or not. Or can you only feel empathy if the victim is Jewish and therefore you want them all to be Jewish? There’s no logic behind your reasoning, Gadolhadorah. And it would benefit you to listen to a real gadolhador. You need to learn a thing or two so that your comments dont reflect on you as a kattanhadorah, which you be a more suitable posting name.

  16. Hey, MCW, dobn’t comment unless you know what you are talking about. Temple Emanuel IS a Reform temple. Secondly, the Reform movement cut its final ties with Judaism over 60 years ago.
