HATE IN LONG BEACH: Three Yeshiva Bochrim Shot With BB Gun


Police in Long Beach, NY, are investigating an incident that happened on Motzei Shabbos as a possible hate crime.

According to police, six people were shot by a BB gun – including three Long Beach Yeshiva Bochrim.

All the incidents happened within a period four minutes in the area of Temple Israel on Riverside Boulevard around 10PM.

One was struck in his hat while on Magnolia Boulevard. Another was struck in the ankle at the intersection of Riverside Boulevard and Beech Street. A third bochur was shot at while at Riverside Boulevard and Beech Street, but was not struck.

In addition, three women who are not Jewish walking on a boardwalk ramp tell police they were also hit in ankle and in the back.

In both incidents, victims told police the shots were coming from a dark SUV.

No one was injured.

Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney said Sunday afternoon that the police department, which had already stepped up patrols at all places of worship in the city following the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre, is investigating whether the Yeshiva students were targeted because of their faith.

  1. Misleading headline. The article says that three non-Jewish women were also hit. They obvious;y were not specifically targeting Jews.

  2. How ironic, it’s almost 32 years to the day since the unsolved murder of Chaim Weiss Z’L in his dorm room in the Mesivta of LONG BEACH on Halloween night November 1, 1986.
