LIVE BLOG: Real Time Election Results [FINAL UPDATE 3:30AM ET]

THE LATEST UPDATES ARE ON TOP – SCROLL DOWN FOR EARLIER NEWS

Democrats took control of the House of Representatives for the first time in eight years on Tuesday night, dealing a major setback to President Trump’s legislative agenda — but Republicans were able to expand their narrow Senate majority in a crucial election night that dramatically split power in Washington.

In a boost for Trump, the GOP’s continued hold on the Senate gives Republicans control over all critical federal judicial appointments, including nominations to the Supreme Court. Republicans flipped a number of marquee Senate seats on Tuesday, with wins by Josh Hawley over Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri, Rep. Kevin Cramer over Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota, and Mike Braun over Joe Donnelly in Indiana.

But Democrats’ win in the House gives fresh hope to liberals who want to investigate and perhaps even impeach the president.

Democrats will also be able to halt many items on Trump’s legislative wishlist, including funding for his proposed border wall and a new middle-class tax cut — or at least extract major concessions on contentious issues like immigration reform before Trump gets his way.

Although the exact size of the parties’ respective majorities in the House and Senate are not clear, Democrats will soon have to decide whether to restore Nancy Pelosi to her old job as speaker of the House, which she held from 2007 to 2011.

ALL NEW YORK ELECTION RESULTS: Dems Flip State Senate, At Least Two Republican Congressmen Defeated

3:21AM ET: Democrat Jacky Rosen has defeated incumbent Republican Dean Heller in a hard-fought battle for a U.S. Senate seat in Nevada, giving Democrats a key pickup in the chamber.

Rosen on Tuesday ousted Heller, who has been in office since he was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2011.

Heller was considered the most vulnerable Republican running for re-election to the U.S. Senate this year as the only one seeking another term in a state that Hillary Clinton won in 2016. He conceded earlier in the night.

Heller was once a critic of President Donald Trump, but the two have become allies. Rosen painted Heller as a rubber stamp for the president and counted on backlash to Trump to help her oust the incumbent.

Rosen’s win puts Nevada with half a dozen other states represented by U.S. senators who are both female. Nevada’s other senator is Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto.

12:50AM ET: President Donald Trump has called to congratulate Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi as her party stood on the brink of recapturing the House of Representatives.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the president made a series of calls while watching the election results late Tuesday.

Pelosi’s spokesman Drew Hammill said Trump called Pelosi to congratulate her and to note her tone of bipartisanship.

Sanders says Trump also called Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “to congratulate him on historic Senate gains.”

Trump also called outgoing House Speaker Paul Ryan and Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

And he called several Republican winners for whom he campaigned in recent weeks, including incoming Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, incoming Ohio governor Mike DeWine and incoming Florida Sen. Rick Scott.

12:15AM ET: Democrats have picked up at least 23 House seats, putting them on track to reach the 218 needed to seize control from Republicans after eight years.

Democrats knocked off at least 17 GOP incumbents, picking up moderate, suburban districts across the country. Democrats won seats stretching from suburban Washington, New York and Philadelphia to outside Miami, Chicago and Denver. West Coast results were still coming.

Democrat Abigail Spanberger of Virginia defeated Republican incumbent Dave Brat in suburban Richmond to give Democrats the 23rd pickup.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi is hailing “a new day in America.”

11:55PM ET: Democrat Debbie Stabenow of Michigan has won a fourth term in the Senate, defeating Republican challenger John James.

Stabenow campaigned as a pragmatic lawmaker who forges bipartisan agreement despite the partisan rancor in Washington. She cited her work shaping farm legislation and pushing a new law that allows pharmacists to tell consumers when they can save on prescriptions by paying cash instead of using insurance.

The 68-year-old Stabenow criticized President Trump’s attempt to slash federal funding for the Great Lakes. She said James would have been an unabashed enthusiast of Trump with no governing experience.

James is a black combat veteran and business executive. Trump won Michigan in 2016. He called James “a star” candidate.

11:55PM ET: Republican Gov. Phil Scott won re-election Tuesday in the traditionally Democratic state of Vermont by defeating Democratic challenger Christine Hallquist.

In Oregon, Democratic Gov. Kate Brown won re-election over Republican challenger Knute Buehler.

Republicans had believed that Oregon provided one of their best chances to flip a Democratic governor’s seat in a year when Democrats generally have been making greater gains.

Democrats on Tuesday flipped governor’s offices in at least four states — Illinois, Kansas, Michigan and New Mexico.

Republicans entered Election Day holding 33 governor’s offices and two-thirds of the state legislative chambers.

11:35PM ET: President Donald Trump is deeming the election results a “tremendous success,” as Republicans maintain control of the Senate but Democrats make gains in the House. Trump tweeted Tuesday night: “Tremendous success tonight. Thank you to all!” Trump spent the evening watching returns in the White House with family and friends. He spent the days leading up to Election Day on a campaign rally blitz, aimed at boosting Republicans running for Senate.

11:30PM ET: Republican Ron DeSantis will be Florida’s next governor, riding President Donald Trump’s support to a victory over Democrat Andrew Gillum. The 40-year-old former congressman and Navy officer won Tuesday after Trump went to Florida twice in the final six days of the election to help increase Republican turnout. Gillum was hoping to become Florida’s first black governor. He conceded late Tuesday. DeSantis was considered an underdog until Trump injected himself in the Republican primary, helping DeSantis cruise to victory over better-funded and better-known Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam.

11:07PM ET: Republican Attorney General Josh Hawley is projected to defeat two-term Democratic Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill in one of the most closely-watched races in the country.

11:00PM ET: Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, has conceded in his race against Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis.

Gillum, who is just 39 years old, vowed to remain involved in politics.

“I can guarantee you this I’m not going anywhere,” said Gillum. “We’re going to fight, we’re going to keep fighting.”

10:35PM EST: New York Republican Rep. Dan Donovan loses his race in New York’s 11th congressional district to Democrat Max Rose, according to The Associated Press. The district has long been considered a stronghold for Republicans.

10:14PM ET: Republican Senator Ted Cruz will win a second term by defeating Democratic Congressman Beto O’Rourke in the most expensive Senate race in American history.

10:06PM ET: Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer is projected to unseat Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota.

10:01PM ET: Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will defeat Democrat Jenny Wilson to succeed retiring GOP Senator Orrin Hatch in Utah.

9:50PM ET: White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says a Democratic wave may look more like a “ripple.”

Sanders spoke to reporters at the White House Tuesday night, as election returns were still coming in. She says, “Maybe you get a ripple but I certainly don’t think that there’s a blue wave.”

She says there is still a “long way to go,” but the White House feels “good about where we are right now.”

Should Republicans lose the House, Sanders says the president’s agenda is not going to change.

Speaking on Fox News, Sanders said the candidates that Trump campaigned for are doing well. She also said that if Republicans should lose the House, Democrats should try to work across the aisle.

9:33PM ET: Fox News projects that Democrats will take control of the House of Representatives for the first time in eight years, dealing a major setback to President Trump’s legislative agenda and giving fresh hope to liberals who want to investigate and perhaps even impeach the president.

The win by Democrats deals a major setback to President Trump’s legislative agenda and could potentially open the door to investigations into Trump and his administration, including a possible impeachment. Although the exact size of the Democratic majority is not yet clear, Democrats will soon have to decide whether to restore Nancy Pelosi to her old job as Speaker of the House.

9:24PM ET: Democrats are likely to reclaim the House majority, NBC News estimated Tuesday night. The party had a 65 percent chance of winning control of the House, according to the estimate, taking as many as 31 seats — well over the 23 needed for the majority — for a total of 224. The call came with Democrats positioned to claim victory in a handful of bellwether congressional races, as polls began closing in some parts of the eastern U.S.

9:21PM ET: Mike Braun, a Republican businessman is projected to defeat first-term Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly in Indiana.

8:50PM ET: The Democrats flipped their first two Republican-held House seats Tuesday as polls closed in the East, winning an open Florida district and another in the suburbs of the nation’s capital as they worked to wrest control of the chamber from the GOP and confront President Donald Trump.

In the Miami area, former Clinton administration Cabinet member Donna Shalala defeated television journalist Maria Elvira Salazar in a costly, roller-coaster contest. Virginia Rep. Barbara Comstock — among the most endangered GOP incumbents, branded Barbara “Trumpstock” by Democrats — lost to Jennifer Wexton, a prosecutor and state legislator, who was among the record number of women running this election.

8:20PM ET: Polls have closed across the East Coast, but the results in some of the most closely watched races remain too close to call.

Polls across six states closed at 7 p.m. EST, including battlegrounds Georgia, Indiana and Kentucky. Polls in other key states including Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey closed at 8 p.m. EST.

At least two lower-profile elections with presidential implications were decided after the first major wave of polls closed in the East.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders easily won his third term as he considers another bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. And Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another potential 2020 contender, also won her race.

Health care and immigration were high on voters’ minds as they cast ballots in the midterm elections, per a wide-ranging survey by The Associated Press.

7:30PM ET: Polls have now closed in three more states: West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.

In WV, Senator Manchin is trying to fend off a challenge by Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. It is too early to declare a winner in that race.

7:15PM ET: As polls begin to close, the White House is stressing the effort President Donald Trump put into a political ground game aimed at putting Republicans in the win column for Tuesday’s midterm elections.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says in a written statement that Trump has headlined 50 political rallies, 30 in the past two months. He’s campaigned for dozens of candidates at all levels of government.

Sanders says the Republican National Committee raised more than $250 million under Trump to defy what she calls “midterm history,” which tends to favor the party that does not control the White House.

Sanders says the president and first lady Melania Trump are looking forward to watching election results Tuesday night with friends and family in the White House residence.

[WATCH: Long Lines, Machine Breakdowns on Election Day in NYC & Around The Country]

4:00PM ET:

President Donald Trump is spending Election Day calling allies, tweeting endorsements and following news coverage, after concluding a six-day rally blitz in Missouri late Monday.

Trump packed his closing argument with hardline immigration rhetoric and harsh attacks on Democrats as he stared down the prospect of Republican losses that could shadow his presidency.

Faced with the possibility of keeping the Senate but losing the House, aides have begun laying out the political reality to Trump, who could face an onslaught of Democratic-run investigations and paralysis of his policy agenda.

Trump has already been trying out defensive arguments, noting that midterm losses are typical for the party in the White House, pointing out a high number of GOP retirements and stressing that he has kept his focus on the Senate.

  1. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 2nd in line to the Presidency…30 to 35 seat Dem majority in the House….how sweet it is….Republicans will pick up 3 Senate Seats but margins of victory in States like Texas etc. incredibly narrow so Republicans will begin to distance themselves slightly from the Trumpkopf. A special kol hakovod to several young Jewish women who (including 2 military veterans) who won House Seats. Hopefully, the Dems will be smart and NOT immediately go crazy with investigations and impeachment nareshkeit but push back on policy issues like taxes and health care. Republicans will still be able to confirm more judges and very little the Dems can do to stop the Trumpkopf from pushing throuh more conservatives so thats a big positive for the Republicans

  2. Dear Gadolhaforah,
Please Talk respectfully about our President Trump, if you are really a Jew and not a Mohammad hiding under the name you are using. If you are really a fellow Jew then know that you should respect our president, President Trump. We all will vote republican
    2020 G-d’s help and G-d’s will.

  3. Sing to the mountains, sing to the sea
Raise your voices, lift your hearts
This is the day Hashem has made
    Let all the earth rejoice!

  4. The House will control some very powerful committees, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I suggest more whining and lying from the POTUS.

  5. Gadolhadorah, please stop using the phrase “Trumpkopf” as it’s comes off as antisemetic and insulting towards survivors of Nazi Germany.

#2. According to the US Constitution the Vice President is second in line for the presidency.

  6. Shiva 13

Yes….I am most certainly a “muslim” who trolls here under various names as you so eloquently surmised. Your sheer stupidity about the identities and agenda of the few of us here on YWN who speak against the incumbent is laughable.

When the Trumpkopf begins to show respect and civility to the American people and others, when he stops with his vulgarity and demeaning characterization of those he disagrees with and stops bullying anyone who challenges him, than I will certainly do political tshuvah and show respect. However as long as he defiles the office of the Presidency, a position held by many others with whom I may have disagreed but showed respect for the office and others, I have no reason to treat him with the derech eretz he denies to others.

  7. When Gadolhadorah does political teshuva, she’ll write:

When the vile, vulgar media, will show respect to the president & the millions of deplorables, when it stops stooping to bullying, harassing, dividing American against American, spitting in the faces of religious folks, emboldening disgusting name callers… ie, Nazi, Hitler, racist…., encouraging violence, lying, faking news, tearing apart our great country…
    Then I’ll klapp Al Cheit..
The loathesome mob of Pelosi, Maxine, The vomit who calls himself Adam Schiff, Iran Nadler will never legislate.
NP… Senate will then dress Hillary & Co.
    In orange jumpsuits….
    MAGA

  8. The point is (I’ll try to explain this slowly) is that when we make nazi comparisons that are hyperbolic and political, we trivialize the holocaust. You may not approve of Trump but many Jews ( more than 90% of orthodox Jewery in America) and most of those who live in lsrael see him as one of the most supportive pro-Israel, pro- Jewish Presidents ever. That makes your vitriol rather suspect in terms of your identity. Meanwhile we still have freedom of speech of course but that will change if G-d forbid the democrats take over.

  9. The Republican candidates who who were strong supporters of trump did better than Republican mods (because the mods have no tact). The moderate dems did better than the media darling dems, aside from Cortez. Having Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House is nothing to celebrate about.

  10. dbrim ….you can “explain” it slowly or quickly, there was NO comparison to the Shoah….please save your musar. And yes, Ziongate, the real source of the hateful and racist speech is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Yes, the Administration is a strong supporter of EY but there are many other issues of concern to yidden.

  11. “there are many other issues of concern to yidden.”
    coming from.. who [drumroll]??

    climate change?
    Animal welfare?
    Treating transgenders with compassion?

    Care to expound?

  12. Give an example of a racist speech from 1600 Penn. Ave….

You’re not bothered by “White supremacy, white privilege “…
You support BLM, Women of the Street,
Newly elected Reps calling for Israel’s demise, broad coverage of sickos calling for POTUS assassination, too many whites in WH.???????

Oh,…… did I ask for an example of Trump’s hate???
I’ll cut you slack that you’re a Kool Aid
Shlinger and CNN wide eyed groupie,
but the Demon-shaydim & media are evil.
    Example please……

  13. Anyone else notice that GH is fairly bouncing all over this site today, peddling unproven allegations and perjoratives.
    Somebody’s very angry today…..
Didn’t quite get the whole prey…

  14. Still watching if Gadolhadorah can prove Trump’s “hate speech”….. Crickets.
Watching in fact ,if she can prove any anti-Semitic statement from 1600 Penn. Ave.
You see folks, libs throw labels without evidence.
I only see what CNN, MLSD comments as snippets on Fox or conservative radio.
    Throwing pejoratives without any evidence.
    But tthat’s them.
Murdered the family of Kavanaugh in cold blood based on nothing….
