YWN Speaks Up, The New York Times Backs Down – But Look What They Did Instead

In apparent response to Rabbi Yaakov Bender’s letter, posted yesterday on Yeshiva World News, the New York Times removed the picture of Yeshiva Darchei Torah from their anti-yeshiva article.

Sadly, the “Do Children get a Subpar Education in Yeshivas?” diatribe remains.

They just don’t get it.

Yeshiva Darchei Torah IS a Yeshiva, one of our best. The excellence that the Times now implicitly admits is a rebuttal of the entire article – not just the picture.

And they replaced the picture of Darchei Torah with one of Yeshiva of Flatbush. Not only that, but the caption under the image says “A group of graduates from ultra-Orthodox Jewish private schools in New York claim that some yeshiva students are never taught secular lessons, like science or history. Credit Mark Lennihan/Associated Press”

The New York Times should do the right thing – TAKE THE ENTIRE ARTICLE DOWN!

  1. This is comparing apples to oranges. The problem is not with litvishe yeshivos like YDT. They are far superior to any public school by virtually any measure. The problem is with ******ishe yeshivos that beshitoh don’t use a word of English. The result is that not only can’t their talmidim get a job (I guess that’s beshitoh also), but they can’t even fill out an application in English for public assistance (that’s clearly not beshitoh). Also, not to be difficult, but I wonder whether any *******ishe rabbonim would defend YDT the same way Rabbi Bender defends them, or whether they’re happy with whatever happens to us just so long as the New Square tax breaks are in place.

  2. There is hardly a newspaper among the mainstream media that has not been openly anti-Jewish. With all of these anti-Semitic rags, the New York Slimes has excelled as the most rabid schmatte. It deserves to be boycotted in every way. It would even be nice, if it were possible, to successively boycott their advertisers so they could get hit in the pocketbook. Did anyone expect a better article from NYT? They have never apologized for covering WWII without a single reference to the extermination of millions of Jews until a casual reference in April 1945 on page 8. They need to be considered a banned outlet. I do not believe they would retract a word of their virulent attacks on Jews. I wish the NYT would fade away and their flood of toxic waste would stop.

  3. I haven’t been in NY in a while but isn’t that the picture of the Young Israel on the corner of Coney Island and Avenue I? Isn’t Yeshiva of Flatbush on Avenue J, between E. 16th and E. 17th?

  4. To rebbi yid I don’t know who sounds dumber you or the new york times. You write **** er like its a dirty word. Your slime like the times. First of all the difference in time between the chasidisher yeshivos and litvish is about one hour. Chasidisher have 1.5 to 2 hours of instruction and litvish at most is 3 hrs. In this extra hour they usually have a break and learn science and history which the chasidisher yeshivos don’t. Second you obviously have a bias against chasidim, I’m a tutor in both chasdish and litvosh yeshivos both use similar textbook and the level of instruction is very good. Chasidisher children learn a lot in english department. The real problem is the language. A child who talks Yiddish 22 out of 24 hours a day 4 days a week will not be able to read or write English properly. This has ZERO to to with the education they get.

  5. Bottom line: YOu Reap What You Sow.!

The yeshivos made thier own bed.
And you gave the anti Semites an extra reason to hate us. Thanx but no thanx

  6. By placing a picture of Yeshiva of Flatbush only reinforces the fact that the Times is biased against ALL orthodox jews. This should be a strong rebuke to all those who criticized the Satmar Rebbe for saying he will fight the state education dept. These liberals won’t stop until they get the yeshivas to teach evolution and alternative lifestyles. This is their goal.

  7. Takes2-2tango,
If you think the anti-Semites need even one reason to hate us you are naively ignorant regarding anti-Semitism.

  8. @Rebbe Yid:
    You are a total moron!!!!!

I, actually belong to “Dirty word” Chasidish Skver community, and I not only had a good elementary education, I actually proceeded on to college where I graduated with honors!!!!!!!

I’m curious if you ever went to college??

  9. That picture is the Young Israel of Flatbush; the small to its left and the buiding to its right ( on Ave I and East 10 ) is the Yeshiva of Flatbush elementary.
The high school is on Ave J and East 16

  10. That’s pretty comical on the behalf of the NYSlimes that they’d replace a picture of a Litvishe Yeshiva that excels in just about everything with a picture of a Modern Orthodox Yeshiva that has an even stronger emphasis on Limeudi Chol.

  11. THIS WOMAN WAS FIRED AS TAMPA’S HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT FOR ‘CREATING A WORKPLACE CULTURE OF FEAR AND BULLYING.”

https://www.tampabay.com/news/education/k12/frustration-with-superintendent-maryellen-elia-bubbled-over/2215041

Tampa Bay Times on firing of  Hillsborough County school superintendent MaryEllen Elia:

“The members’ written evaluations of Elia over the past three years shed more light on their points of disagreement. Valdes accused Elia of creating a workplace culture of fear and bullying, and failing to pay enough attention to minorities, including Hispanics.

”Stuart criticized Elia’s interaction with the board, saying she failed to include them in events such as a teacher appreciation video and the governor’s visit. ”

Well then, Elia is certainly paying attention to Orthodox Jews and bullying them and putting fear in other religious institutions to teach secular subjects that may have no bearing at all on their life and way of living.
