OU’s Teach Advocacy Network Rebrands As “Teach Coalition”

Teach Advocacy Network, a nonpartisan organization advocating for equitable funding in nonpublic schools, has changed its name to “Teach Coalition” as other groups join the coalition as a result of its success. Teach Coalition will continue to advocate in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, California and Maryland under the names Teach NYS, Teach NJ, Teach PA, Teach FL, Teach CA and Teach MD.

Teach Coalition was founded by the Orthodox Union (OU) to advocate for equitable government funding for day schools and yeshivas – funding that had been denied previously to nonpublic school students. With a vast network of community leaders, parents and lawmakers across the country, Teach Coalition is working to keep the costs down of sending our children to nonpublic schools.

Its new logo – in red, white and blue – speaks to the innovative way the organization is working to engage with state and local governments to acquire equitable government funding. The symbol in the logo is a combination of a pencil, school house and capitol building that ties into its three constituent groups – parents, school administrators and legislators, who are partnering with the organization to provide alternative funding for its day schools and yeshivas. The organization’s new tagline, “Act for Jewish Education” is designed to remind members of the Jewish community that in order to continue to advocate for the government aid, they must continue to be more politically active.

“In the last seven years, we’ve secured an additional $500 million in government aid for nonpublic schools and as a result, other nonpublic school groups have reached out asking to join our coalition,” said Teach Coalition’s Executive Director Maury Litwack. “Therefore, we felt the need to rebrand for our work in the statehouses while also creating a new and more energized tagline to encourage more people in the Jewish community to become more politically active and to join us in our mission of acting for Jewish education.”

Teach Coalition was founded in 2013 to advocate for equitable government funding for nonpublic schools. With a vast network of community leaders, parents and lawmakers across the country, Teach Coalition is working to keep the costs down of sending children to nonpublic schools. The network has secured an increase of $500 million in government aid for nonpublic schools since 2011.

  1. New name but same old stuff. NYS with the most yeshiva students of any state cannot grant tuition tax credits. Where is this group? Where has this group been? How do they define success? Stuffing the pockets of yeshiva administrators with public taxpayer funded grant money?
