YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Hagaon HaRav Shlomo Mordechai Breslauer ZATZAL, the Morah D’asra at Bais Tefilla in Monsey.

Rav Breslauer was a tremendous Gaon and brilliant Talmid Chochom, who served as the Rov of his Kehilla, which he founded around 50 years ago. The Hachtarah to his Shul was given by Hagaon HaRav Yaakov Kamenetzky who davened in the shul.

As a Bochur he studied at Bais Medrash Elyon in Monsey.

Rav Breslauer was a Rebbe at Yeshiva of Spring Valley for many years.

His wife, Rebbitzen Leah Breslauer A”H was Niftar in 2016. Together they built an incredible Kehilla. The Rebbitzen started a playgroup that had many distinguished rabbonim and talmdei chachomim as children attend. HaRav Dovid Schustal, HaRav Shlomo Feivel Schustal and HaRav Eli Yagod were among her early students.

Rav Breslauer leaves behind two sons, Rav Dovid, rosh kollel in South Fallsburg; Rav Eliezer Lipman, rosh kollel in Passaic; and two daughters, Mrs. Devorah Wosner (married to Rav Yochanan Wosner) of Monsey, Mrs. Ruchy Leeb (married to Rav Shlomo Yitzchak Leeb) of Eretz Yisroel, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Levaya will be on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00PM at Bais Tefillah located at 2 Maplewood Lane in Monsey.

  1. His father was a rov in Germany and later in Washington heights. A strong supporter of Kano’im and of Satmar opinions. Having grown up in a household of rabonus it was very natural for him to. Conti u the tradition. Quite likely that it was the first Ashkenazi Shul in Monsey. And he made sure it should be a real Kehila. It was said that he was so makpid not to take gifts from anyone that he built his house from a kit with his own hands.

  2. To complete the record, his father Rav Yehuda (Leo) Breslauer was Rav of Shomrei Hadas in Fuerth, Germany and later in Kehila Yaakov in new York.

  3. Sincere question:

    What does this mean
“The Hachtarah to his Shul was given by Hagaon HaRav Yaakov Kamenetzky who davened in the shul.”

I’ve never heard that expression before, the Hachtarah.

    Thanks
