The Israeli government has published a sweeping draft law that would grant additional security bodies broad new powers to confront the growing threat posed by drones and unmanned aircraft, Kan News reported Monday evening.

The proposed authorities would include the ability to intercept drones and disrupt their operation in the air. The measure would apply not only to traditional security agencies such as the IDF, Mossad, Shin Bet and Israel Police, but also to the Defense Ministry’s security authority and the Knesset Guard.

Other entities, including defense companies, have also requested similar powers, and the government is expected to consider expanding the list in the future.

The legislation, drafted by the Justice Ministry, would serve as a temporary measure for five years. It also calls for the establishment of a national system managed by the IDF that would maintain a centralized “air picture” and collect information on drone activity throughout Israeli airspace.
