A massive fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Agri Star Meat & Poultry plant in Postville, Iowa, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and prompting a major emergency response.
The blaze was reported shortly after 4 a.m. at the sprawling kosher meat-processing facility. Witnesses described heavy smoke rising from the plant as firefighters continued battling the flames. An Agri Star employee confirmed that emergency crews were at the scene, though officials had not yet disclosed where inside the facility the fire began or how much of the plant was affected.
There were no immediate confirmed reports regarding injuries, evacuations or the extent of the damage. The cause of the blaze also remained unknown at this point.
Agri is owned by Hershey Friedman, who employs hundreds of workers, including local residents and shochtim.
It was previously owned by the Rubashkin family. Eventually it became the largest kosher meat-packing plant in the United States.
Additional information will be updated by YWN shortly.

My only concern in this situation is that innocent people should not be affected by this massive blaze & destruction. For the well-being of most of the non-Jewish inhabitants of the area my heart can not bleed. They are among the most cruel, vile, vicious people I’ve come to know. Closest in character to the ancient Sodomites. Here was a situation where a Jewish entrepeneur, through the sweat of his brow & financial acumen saw an opportunity & developed it. To the mutual benefit of everyone. The locals, instead of thanking him & appreciating his hard work in elevating their economic & social status from a sleepy hollow to a vibrant, large city did everything in their power & beyond, including abusing & subverting the Federal Justice system with the corrupt “judge” among them. Just to destroy the facility. The source of their prosperity. And punish an innocent man & his family. Motivated by sheer hatred & jealousy. Mr. Sholom Rubashkin. So. Whatever comes to them doesn’t wake up my compassion. Only a slight taste of revenge. Sweet revenge!
