Outgoing Army Secretary Dan Driscoll broke his silence Tuesday night after submitting his resignation, praising President Trump, War Secretary Pete Hegseth and the soldiers he led during his 18 months in the role.

“As a third-generation Army veteran, it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as the Secretary of the Army under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth,” Driscoll said, adding that Wednesday would be his final full day in office.

Driscoll credited the administration with helping modernize the Army and accelerate changes to how it trains, equips and prepares its forces. “We could not have made the progress we did without the support of Secretary Hegseth,” he said.

The praise comes despite reports of tensions between Driscoll and Hegseth. A source familiar with the matter told Fox News that Driscoll had raised concerns about the Army’s transformation and readiness, including his belief that Hegseth had hindered some of those efforts.

Those tensions reportedly intensified after Hegseth removed several senior Army leaders, including Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George.

The White House nevertheless praised Driscoll’s tenure, saying he had been “highly effective” in advancing Trump’s agenda through his leadership during major military operations, efforts to strengthen readiness and lethality, and his involvement in Russia-Ukraine negotiations.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said the Army is “more powerful than ever” because of Driscoll’s work alongside Trump and Hegseth.

Driscoll, a close ally and former Yale Law School classmate of Vice President JD Vance, also played a major role in expanding the Army’s use of drones and strengthening its partnerships with Silicon Valley technology companies.

His departure comes more than six months into the Iran war and amid a renewed round of fighting in the conflict.
