YWN regrets to inform you of the petirah of Rebbetzin Sarah Bressler a”h, the wife of Rav Chaim Bressler, the longtime Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Moshe in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Rebbetzin Bressler, née Falik, spent decades alongside her husband as he helped build one of the most prominent Torah institutions outside the major frum population centers, playing a quiet but critical role in the growth of Torah life in Scranton.
Yeshiva Bais Moshe was established in 1965 by Rav Bressler and Rav Yaakov Schnaidman, both talmidim of Hagaon HaRav Aharon Kotler zt”l. Beginning with a small group of talmidim in rented facilities, the yeshiva grew over the ensuing decades into a major makom Torah whose alumni have gone on to positions in chinuch, rabbanus and communal leadership.
Throughout those formative decades, Rebbetzin Bressler stood steadfastly at her husband’s side, enabling his lifelong harbotzas haTorah while devoting herself to their family, the yeshiva and the wider Scranton community. She became a beloved and deeply respected figure in the community and shared in the sacrifices required to establish and sustain a major yeshiva far from the larger Torah centers of New York and New Jersey.
The Bresslers were not simply members of an existing Torah community in Scranton; they were instrumental in building one. The yeshiva they helped establish became a fixture of the American Torah landscape and transformed Scranton into a flourishing makom Torah, educating thousands of talmidim over the years.
After spending the overwhelming majority of her adult life in Scranton, Rebbetzin Bressler and her husband more recently moved to Lakewood, where they resided in the A Country Place neighborhood.
Rebbetzin Bressler is survived by her husband, Rav Chaim Bressler, as well as their children and grandchildren, who continue the family’s legacy of Torah, yiras Shomayim and dedication to Klal Yisroel.
The levayah is scheduled for Monday night at 10:00 p.m. at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, 613 Ramsey Avenue in Lakewood.
