WILLIAMSBURG: Shomrim Issues Burglary Alert After Suspect Enters Multiple Homes, Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant

Williamsburg Shomrim is urging residents to remain on high alert after a suspect linked to a recent burglary spree returned to the neighborhood over Shabbos and entered multiple homes during the early morning hours.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. Shabbos morning, a yungerman awoke to discover an intruder inside his home. The resident began yelling and immediately contacted Williamsburg Shomrim.

Shomrim volunteers quickly began reviewing surveillance footage and were able to track the suspect on neighborhood cameras, determining that before reaching the home where he was confronted, he had entered multiple other residences through unlocked doors. Shomrim says the incidents highlight the importance of residents making sure all doors and windows are locked, including while they are home and overnight.

The same individual is believed to have burglarized a home in the neighborhood several weeks ago, stealing a significant amount of money, and is suspected of being behind multiple burglaries during a recent spree in Williamsburg.

Williamsburg Shomrim has released a surveillance image of the suspect and is asking anyone who recognizes him or has information to immediately contact Shomrim at 718-237-0202 and the NYPD at 911.

Williamsburg Shomrim Coordinator Yanky Itzkowitz tells YWN that, based on guidance from the organization’s Dayonim, anyone who discovers an intruder inside their home on Shabbos should call Shomrim immediately.

Shomrim and the NYPD are also reminding residents not to confront or engage an intruder, as the individual could be armed and dangerous. Residents should get to a safe location if possible and immediately contact Shomrim and 911.

The NYPD, together with Williamsburg Shomrim, is actively investigating. Captain Vincent Seminerio, Commanding Officer of the NYPD’s 90th Precinct, personally came down on Motzei Shabbos to speak with victims as the investigation continued.

Williamsburg Shomrim is also reminding residents to take the following burglary-prevention precautions:

Lock all doors and windows, including backyard doors, basement entrances and secondary entrances. Check that doors are fully secured before going to sleep, even when home or stepping out briefly.

Keep your home well-lit, particularly entrances, hallways and other vulnerable areas.

Make sure security cameras and alarm systems are working properly, that camera timestamps are accurate and alarms are activated.

Do not hide spare keys outside under mats, planters or other obvious locations.

Bring packages inside promptly and keep valuables out of sight.

Stay alert for unfamiliar people or vehicles around your building or block.

Residents who notice anything suspicious are urged to contact Williamsburg Shomrim at 718-237-0202 and 911.

See Something, Say Something.
