A 29-year-old Kansas man has been charged with 23 counts after allegedly making a series of antisemitic death threats against conservative Jewish commentator Ben Shapiro, including threats that investigators say pointed toward killing him on Yom Kippur, News4SA reports, citing a court affidavit.
Korby Aaren Strube of Horton, Kansas, allegedly posted the threats on X between July 31 and August 2, repeatedly threatening Shapiro while targeting him over his Jewish identity. Among the posts were messages containing a countdown — including references to “51 days” and “52 days” remaining — which investigators said pointed toward Yom Kippur as the apparent target date.
The countdown significantly heightened concerns surrounding the threats because it appeared to identify a specific day rather than simply making a general threat against Shapiro. Shapiro told investigators that his security chief alerted him after intelligence analysts discovered the posts.
Investigators used records obtained from X, Google and Starlink to connect the account to Strube, according to the affidavit. Strube was arrested and booked in Brown County, Kansas, on August 28.
Strube allegedly acknowledged controlling three X accounts and posting the threatening material. Investigators also uncovered alleged threats or countdowns involving President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Joe Rogan.
Prosecutors are seeking enhanced treatment of the charges based on alleged religious prejudice, with investigators alleging that Strube specifically targeted Shapiro because he is Jewish.
