Russian natural gas shipments to Armenia will be suspended for 10 days beginning Tuesday while maintenance work is carried out on a pipeline inside Russia, Reuters reports. Gazprom Armenia said the interruption will run from September 15 through September 25.
Armenia plans to cover the temporary shortfall using domestic gas reserves together with additional natural gas supplied by neighboring Iran.
The interruption highlights Armenia’s heavy reliance on Russian energy. Approximately 82% of Armenia’s natural gas imports came from Russia last year, according to Interfax.
Gazprom Armenia described the shutdown as temporary and related to planned maintenance rather than a political or commercial dispute. Russian supplies are expected to resume following completion of the work.
