ELECTION DAY: Delaware Holds Final Primary Of 2026 Midterm Season

Voters in Delaware headed to the polls Tuesday for the final primary election of the 2026 cycle, bringing the months-long primary season to a close and setting the stage for the November midterms.

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons faces a primary challenge as he seeks another term, while state Attorney General Kathy Jennings is also facing an opponent. Rep. Sarah McBride is running unopposed in her Democratic primary.

The contests come at the end of a primary season that has seen progressive candidates score several victories against Democratic establishment figures, while President Trump’s endorsements continued to exert substantial influence in Republican races.

Once Delaware’s results are settled, both parties will turn fully toward November, when control of Congress will be decided and Republicans will attempt to break Democrats’ longstanding hold on statewide offices in Delaware.
