India summoned Pakistan’s top diplomat Wednesday and lodged a formal protest after a Pakistani naval vessel collided with an Indian warship in international waters in the northern Arabian Sea, according to Reuters.
Indian officials said the Pakistani vessel approached a frontline Indian warship at high speed Tuesday while the Indian vessel was conducting a routine surveillance mission.
The maneuver resulted in a collision, although Indian officials said the impact did not cause major damage.
New Delhi described the Pakistani vessel’s conduct as unacceptable and unprofessional and said it violated a 1991 agreement governing military exercises, maneuvers and troop movements between the two countries.
The episode marks a new point of military friction between the nuclear-armed neighbors following their four-day conflict last year, which ended with a ceasefire.
