President Donald Trump on Saturday reiterated his pledge to provide every adult U.S. citizen with a $5,000 payment if Republicans retain control of both the House of Representatives and Senate in the upcoming midterm elections.
“If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all Adult Citizens in the United States of America, $5,000,” Trump said.
“Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to signing those checks!” he added.
Trump has repeatedly promoted the proposal, which he has called the “Trump Dividend.” During a campaign rally in Alabama on Friday, Trump said the payments would have to be spent in the United States and argued that the country’s economic performance and tariff revenues would help fund the plan.
The proposal would require congressional approval, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson. With roughly 245 million adult U.S. citizens, distributing $5,000 to each would cost more than $1.2 trillion.
Trump first unveiled the $5,000 proposal at the Republican midterm convention in September and has continued highlighting it as the November 3 elections approach.
