Petira Of Hagon Rav Meir Bransdorfer ZATZAL (PHOTOS)

candle915.gif4:10PM EST: [PHOTOS BELOW] YWN regrets to inform you of the sudden Petira of Hagon Rav Meir Bransdorfer ZATZAL, a member of the Badatz Eidah Chareidis for many years, & the Dayan in Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok. Sources tell YWN that his family called Hatzolah after he collapsed, and emergency personnel worked on him for close to one hour.

A large crowd gathered to say Tehillim outside his home on Rechov Shivtei Yisroel, and the Gavad Eidah Chareidis arrived as well. Tehiilim was recited in many Batei Midrashim in the area before he was Niftar….

A doctor from MDA pronounced him DOA on the scene.

He was approximately 75 years old.

The Levaya will be on Thursday morning at approximately 10/11 AM (confirmed time will be posted shortly).

Boruch Dayan Emmes…

  5. To number 11:

    1. Not necessarily the case by an Adam Gadol
    2. I believe it is not considered overnight when the person is niftar during the night. 4pm NY time is 11pm Israel time.

  6. #9 please share with us the last few minutes of his life. Was Rav Meir sick or was this sudden?
The gemara in :מסכת שבת דף לג tells us that Tzadikim are mechaper for כלל ישראל . Rav Meir was a goan in Torah, Chessed, who paskened on all facets of halacha and was always available for everyone whether for shailos advice or just a smile and bracha, Please take this to heart so that this Gadol Byisrael wasn’t taken in vain. Let’s be mechazek our limud Hatorah which is and always has been our antedote.

  7. The Levayah will be at 10am from Kikar Zupnik on Rechov strauss to Har Hazatim. He leaves behind a Rebbetsin and 14 children and many grandchildren.

Medics were called. It seems he had sudden heart failure. Two motorcycles and an ambulance responded. They worked on him for 50 mins. Many of his grandchildren were present in the room, overflowing into his balcony. In the middle one of the Rabbonim asked the crowds outside to say tehillim, which we did, concluding with a Mi Sheberach. It was a little tense but quiet after that, until someone in the room suddenly screamed Shma Yisrael, which was met with a thundering response. It was followed by some heartbreaking cries.

Make sure to understand correctly the Gemoro you quoted. It does not suggest vicarious atonement. It means that events such as these stir us to do Teshuva. It is the Teshuva Alone with which we can attain forgiveness. The passing of a Tzaddik server only as a catalyst. There isn’t space to elaborate, but this is the essence of Zechariah 14. It is crucial not to make that mistake (I’m not suggesting you did.)

  9. He had a stroke a few years ago and recovered somewhat but seemingly not fully. At the massive Eida Birkas HaChamah on Rechov Shivtei Yisroel, I noted that he remained seated while all the other dayanim stood up for the nigunim etc.

I’m in Monsey at the moment and there are signs up that there’ll be a live hookup to the levaya at 4am at the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Beis Medrash at 20 Westside Ave. (off Central Ave.).

I believe he became a member of the BaDaTz (along with R’ Moshe Halberstam, zatzal) after R’ Moshe Arye Freund, zatzal, was niftar in Elul 5756.

May he be a meilitz yosher for klal Yisroel.
