Officials To Force Mehadrin Poultry Plant to Comply With Court Order

Exeter Township, PA – The Exeter Township supervisors directed their solicitor to petition Berks County Court to force the Mehadrin Kosher Poultry plant to comply with an April 19 court order.

Earlier this month, the supervisors ordered the plant at 1100 Lincoln Road to stop discharging excessive waste into township sewers.

The plant was allowed to operate after Berks Judge Timothy J. Rowley approved a settlement. It required the owners to pay $95,000 in overdue sewer bills and obtain an industrial waste permit from the township by last Wednesday.

As of Monday, the township had not received an application for the permit, the supervisors said.

According to the agreement, the plant, which employs 185, was allowed to discharge 100,000 gallons a day for one week, then 75,000 gallons a day beginning today.

Township officials said the plant had been discharging as much as 329,000 gallons of wastewater daily.

Sewer plant superintendent Paul A. Herb told the supervisors that Mehadrin won’t be able to comply with the 75,000-gallon limit unless it has some of its wastewater trucked away for treatment elsewhere.

Herb said the company has 10 wastewater storage tanks but that they have a total capacity of 200,000 gallons.

The supervisors said they might have the authority to force the poultry plant to install a meter to ensure compliance with the discharge limit. The meter would cost Mehadrin about $20,000.

  1. In an earlier article; I had thought they had been behind in some payments to the city.

If that is true, then I do not know why they simply did not pay the bill.

At this point they should pay any back payments and then try and renegotiate to be allowed the amount of discharge they need for proper full operation.

If the city will not relent, they should consider moving to city or township with a more business friendly, government.

  2. This seems to be yet another example of how yiddn know better than anyone else, and that laws are there to be broken.

If – repeat, IF – the situation had been reversed we would have been hollering and screaming about anti-Semitism, and how the goyim just wanted to persecute the owners of the plant.

But they haven’t, and we’re not.

Nevertheless, the way things are panning out does not endear the owners of Mehadrin Kosher Poultry to the Exeter Township supervisors.

  3. It actually seems to me that these demands might actually be more then they can handle in order to stay open and still charge a reasonable price for their products.Just for the record this plant in Allentown, PA has been there for quite along time. I believe its even older then Rubashkin’s, Potsville!
My own humble opinion is that there is some group that is trying to remove Kashrus in America in a quite way. Which isn’t so implausible seeing what type of govt is right now running America and how the Liberals and Communist (which by the way are mostly Jewish and our anti Kashrus (like PETA)) our right behind it. Which means that the Liberals right now feel that they have their “Messiah” and might probably take full advantage of their governmental power. I think its time to do big Teshuvah.
