Thousands Still Without Power In Rockland County

Thousands of Rockland residents are continuing to struggle today for the fourth straight day without power and with downed trees and power lines across their neighborhoods.

In Rockland, 20,000 customers were still without electricity as of 9:30 a.m. today, according to utility spokeswoman Maria Pollard. Orange and Rockland expects 90 percent of those homes and businesses will have power restored by late Wednesday night. The rest will have power by late Friday.

The power company has called in 750 extra contractors and mutual aide workers, she said. In addition, 1,000 of the company’s own employees are working on storm damage.

Traveling could continue to be treacherous today, police said, with as many as 60 roads across the county closed or blocked.

Orangetown and Clarkstown were hit the hardest, but no community was untouched.

  1. @YW fan: yeah, so utterly ridiculous!! How incompetent of New York to allow snowfall and fallen trees!
oh, and who exactly is New York, by the way?
