This Morning Yerushalayim Weeps

Sunrise in Yerushalayim this morning was less than an hour ago, 05:53, bringing clear skies and what appears will be a typical pleasant spring day. However, Am Yisrael’s capital will not be enjoying the spring weather this morning, and for many, Pesach preparations will be thrust aside and many will leave the benches of the beis medrash to give the ‘kovod acharon’ to HaGaon HaRav Chaim Pinchos Sheinberg ZT”L, the vice elder of the roshei yeshiva shlita, a man that has been at the helm for over a half century, now heading to the Yeshiva Shel Maalah.

The chirping of the birds at the early hour as the sun moves into position is almost deceiving, for in our hearts, it is cloudy and stormy, a difficult day as once again bnei torah prepare to escort one the giants of this generation on his last journey in this world for the third time in recent weeks. .

The levaya for the rosh yeshiva is scheduled to begin at 11:00 at Yeshivas Torah Ohr in Kiryas Mattersdorf. From there, the procession will continue on foot on Sorotzkin Street via Bar Ilan Street, Shmuel HaNavi, Shimon HaTzaddik, until reaching the Chelkas Nevi’im section of Har HaZeisim, where the rosh yeshiva will be interred alongside his rebitzen ob”m.

If that were not enough, there are also the levayas of the korbanos from the Toulouse terror attack, Rav Yonatan Sandler HY”D and his sons Aryeh and Gavriel HY”D and Miriam Monsonego HY”D. It was first reported that Miriam, 8, was going to be buried in France but the decision was made to have the kvura in Yerushalayim with the others.

The flight bringing their bodies to Eretz Yisrael touched down early in the morning, as if the rising sun was illuminating the runway for the kedoshim. The flight was met by a host of state officials as well as Zaka ambulances waiting to transfer them to Yerushalayim for kvura. They will bring the bodies to Shamgar Funeral Home. The levaya is set for 10:00am, beginning in the large parking lot at the entrance to Har Menuchos.

YWN will be covering the levayas and bringing your live feeds throughout the day of the rosh yeshiva’s levaya. There will also be the regular text coverage of all the levayas in live time.

For those of you outside of Eretz Yisrael, YWN has arranged for a live webcast of the Levaya which will be streamed live on YWN, as well as an audio hookup on our YWN Newsline (718-506-1111, option 5 for live hookups).

  1. The human psyche isn’t meant to deal with so much tragedy,
So perhaps it’s time to change our strategy.

Let us change our lives’ course,
Before He really shows us who’s Boss.

And if you dismiss me as just being a lune,
Don’t worry about being “taken” any time soon.

For, evidently, as we’ve witnessed the last couple weeks,
It’s the real good ones that Hashem seeks.
