After remaining silent on the topic of the Peleg branch’s HaPeles newspaper, MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Moshe Gafne spoke out on Tuesday, Independence Day 69. He referred to HaPeles as “The pashkavil”.
Addressing a forum of ‘working chareidim’ in Petach Tikvah, Gafne spoke out about the Peleg faction and its HaPeles newspaper. He added that regarding the matter of chilul Shabbos [in Tel Aviv resulting from the decision of the High Court of Justice], his party is waging a tenacious fight, adding in the time of Maran Rav Shach ZT”L, Maran Rav Sholom Elyashiv ZT”L. and HaGaon HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita, there are matters which demand compromise and there are matters that demand remaining firm to the end. This, defending kedushas Shabbos, is one of those matters that demands we remain uncompromising to the end.

Rav Shach zt”l appointed Gafne to be the representative of the Litvishe world. Instead of following Rav Shach’s shita with his uncompromising policies, according to Hapeles, he compromises on main Yiddishkeit issues which is completely off the shita of Rav Shach zt”l and Rav Eliyashiv zt”l, which is why HaPeles is very upset at Gafne causing Gafne to burn mad at HaPeles.
HaPeles claim that Gafne and his party are rewriting history to suit them. For instance, Gafne states that Gedolei Yisroel throughout generations were against protests, while HaPeles prove that this is 100% a lie and they have recordings where Gafne himself protested many times fiercely in his “old good times”.
Whom did he speak to? To “working charedim” – a modern faction of Degel who do not follow Rav Shach in general and have a complete different philosophy in Yiddishkeit – to such an extent where many chareidi schools for boys and girls would not accept children from these modern “working charedim”.
