HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita, Rosh Yeshivas Kisei Rachamim, has released a psak halacha that one should not fly from Israel on motzei Shabbos for fear of Chilul Shabbos.
During the rav’s weekly shiur, he cited a ruling from HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L that one should not get married on motzei Shabbos due to Chilul Shabbos and this Rav Mazuz feels applies to flying abroad as well. Rav Mazuz explained it is preferable not to fly on motzei Shabbos. He added that in 5763, the first time he flew abroad to raise funds for the yeshiva, he flew on motzei Shabbos, a flight that departed at 10:00PM. He explained at the same time he suffered significant pain and he brought medicine with him, which he forgot on the plane.
The rav then explained he asked himself ‘why is this happening to me’, and later on he read a maimer from the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZT”L stating one should not fly on motzei Shabbos since preparations for the flights are carried out on Shabbos.
Rav Mazuz added “They do as they please. The main thing is the flight is listed for motzei Shabbos but we must know one should not fly on motzei Shabbos”.
