President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday, 2 Rosh Chodesh Elul, visited the Boston Talmid Torah in Bnei Brak for the first day of classes. The visit led to a complaint by Shas MK Guetta, who questioned by Mr. Rivlin did not visit a Sephardi school.

Mr. Rivlin met with faculty of the talmid torah including the principal, Rabbi Natan Fuchsbrumer. He then entered a first-grade class and told students, “Not only you are emotional here today, but your parents and grandparents and more than anyone, your rabbonim. I want you to know you will remember this day when you are real adults, prime ministers, presidents, mayors, roshei yeshivos. This day you will not forget”.

However, not everyone was smiling as Guetta was quick to air his criticism in the media.

  1. The complaint by Shas MK Guetta, who questioned why Mr. Rivlin did not visit a Sephardi school, shows why people dislike sephardim. The President visits many different institutions during the year including sephardi ones. The sense of entitlement that he must always include sephardi places is disgusting.
