PHOTOS: Chesed Shel Emmes On The Ground In Miami Assisting Victims Of Irma

Among the organizations on the ground in Miami assisting in the relief efforts following Hurricane Irma is Chesed Shel Emmes.

A total of 5 vehicles departed New York for Miami on Motzei Shabbos loaded with all types of equipment including search and rescue equipment, 10 generators, 100 gallons of fuel, chain saws and other heavy equipment. They also brought more than one thousand ready-to-eat-meals for local residents and emergency personnel.

The group from NY consisted of 14 volunteers who joined the 25 volunteers that reside in Miami.

They arrived late Sunday night, and set up their command center and began fielding calls from the call-center that was established before the storm. They have been going from location to location checking up on elderly people and making sure they are ok.

Meyer Hersch Berger, a spokesperson for Chesed Shel Emmes told YWN that as many as 30 calls an hour are coming in to the call-center (being run by Amudim) – almost all of them “wellness checks”.

A Chesed Fund Campaign has been launched by Chesed Shel Emmes – please click HERE if you would like to help them.
