In what was labeled Operation 700, police during the night of 3 Cheshvan (Sunday to Monday) arrested 51 persons suspected of participating in disturbances, licensing conditions for businesses were examined, and enforcement was conducted against persons under house arrest. All this in parallel to the improvement and renovation of infrastructure and safety hazards with an emphasis on the school complex and central streets in the heart of the Issawiya.

Hundreds of policemen and border police have been operating in the village of Issawiya as part of ‘Operation 700’, which is an extensive and integrated police enforcement operation to locate and arrest rioters in Issawiya, alongside comprehensive enforcement, while improving the quality of life of the residents.

The objective of the operation, as defined by the Jerusalem District Commander, is to deal with those who are involved in criminal offenses, public order and terrorism, and on the other hand, to improve the quality of life of the normative residents of the village by arresting those who violate the law and order.

The licensing conditions of businesses that provide services to local residents were checked and those which do not meet the safety and licensing conditions required by law closed. Police also carried out inspections of judicial decisions pertaining to domestic arrests.

All this in parallel to the integration of municipal officials who worked in the field to remove garbage dumps and safety hazards, removing signs hung by pedestrians, erasing graffiti and arranging public lighting.

There was a great deal of emphasis on the area of the school complex in the village where communal police were marked with sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and safety hazards for the safety of the students attending the schools.

During the operation, targeted searches and arrests of suspects were conducted against them. Evidence and information about their participation in violent riots were collected during the recent period, including stone throwing and Molotov cocktails at vehicles and security forces, which in some of the incidents resulted in injury to members of the security forces.

All the detainees were brought in by police for further investigation. They will then be arraigned.

This is another enforcement operation carried out in Jerusalem over the past year and police report the department will continue carrying out similar and more focused operations in addition to ongoing operational activity.

This activity is a direct continuation of the struggle against violent crime, corruption and terrorism by the police against those who take an active part in violent disturbances against civilians and security forces.
